Peace March to be Held Thursday Night in Decoto

The march is being held in response to recent violence in the community.

Community members are joining together to plea for peace in the wake of a recent, alarming double homicide in Union City.

On Thursday, Sept. 5 at 6:30 p.m., members of Congregations Organizing for Renewal and other community leaders will hold a rally and peace march in the Decoto neighborhood, where two young men were gunned down Sunday, Aug. 25

The peace march will begin at Our Lady of the Rosary Church at 6th and C streets. It will open with a prayer, followed by a walk through the surrounding neighborhood.

The march aims to demonstrate unity and peace, organizers said.

Organizers called for the march after Daniel Garcia-Sanchez, 21, and Carlos Estrada-Partida, 18, were shot and killed 33400 block of 11th Street. The two young men were the first homicide victims in Union City of 2013 and the first in Decoto in two years. Two suspects have since been arrested in connection to the murders.
