UPDATE: Contempo Shooting Victim Identified

A man shot and killed Tuesday was identified as Keith Hadnot. The shooting marks Union City's third homicide of the year.

Police have identified the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred Tuesday as Keith Douglas Hadnot, 34, of Union City.

Hadnot was shot and killed at the Contempo Homes community early Tuesday evening, police said.

Officers responded to a report of shots fired just after 5 p.m. and found Hadnot suffering from at least one gunshot wound in the street on the 4100 block of Venus Place, said Lt. Gloria Lopez-Vaughan of the Union City Police Department.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to witnesses, a group of teenagers were seen leaving the area before police arrived.

No suspects have been arrested as of Wednesday afternoon and the motive is still unknown, police said.

Witnesses said Hadnot appeared to be arguing with one of the suspects. Hadnot was walking away and crossing Venus Place when one of the suspects drew a handgun and shot him in the back, witnesses said.

The shooting occurred during daylight hours in the middle of a street at Contempo Homes. The sprawling community of townhomes contains 682 units and spans 65 acres, a Contempo Homes manager said.

Residents said the community is often stigmatized as a "bad neighborhood" but has been quiet in recent years. 

Tuesday’s incident marks Union City’s third homicide of 2011.

On May 17, , 49, of Union City was shot and killed on the 600 block of Whipple Avenue. On May 14, , 34, of Union City was shot and killed on the 33600 block of Eighth Street.
