When the UCPD was founded in 1966, there were 12 police officers and one secretary. To serve Union City's growing community, there are now 81 officers and a professional support staff of 37. Under the leadership of Chief Greg Stewart, UCPD provides around-the-clock service, including patrol, investigations, community and animal control services. Its field operations division includes a gang task force, narcotics taks force, traffic unit, canine unit and a volunteer program.
