Poll: Obama is in Favor of Same-Sex Marriage - What Do You Think?

The President told ABC News that his thinking has 'evolved' on the subject of same-sex marriage. How do you feel about his announcement?

President Obama told ABC's Good Morning America on Wednesday that he now supports same-sex marriage. The President—who still supports states deciding the issue on their own—said his personal views had gone through an "evolution" based on conversations with family and friends and the views of his own daughters. "They are much more comfortable with it," the president told Robin Roberts in an interview to be shown on Good Morning America Thursday. Excerpts aired Wednesday night on ABC’s World News with Diane Sawyer. ”You know, Malia and Sasha, they have friends whose parents are same-sex couples," President Obama said in the interview. "There have been times when Michelle and I have been sitting around the dinner table and we’re talking about…

You already know the answer to that questions. But, this is no "evolution", it's a John Kerry "I was for it before I was against it" moment. Back in 1996 as an IL state Senator, Obama was FOR gay marriage. That position became to inconvenient for him to run on a national stage. He's always been for gay marriage, and that's just fine with me. It's pandering bullshit that I have a problem with. …   more ›

Letters to the Editor

An Open Letter to the New Haven Unified School District Board of Education

A parent urges New Haven officials to "keep the heart and soul of the district healthy" in exchange for her "yes" vote on Measure H.

This district used to be like a super healthy body. Over time, it’s had a few setbacks but made adjustments to continue to be healthy and provide a great education. With the latest proposed cuts — especially to choir and band — the body as a whole will suffer. The heart will be irreparably damaged.   I understand and empathize with you for the position the state has put you in.  However, I also am an optimist and am convinced that there’s a solution lurking that will allow these vital programs to continue. I would even advocate for more furlough days because I would rather have fewer days of quality, well-rounded education than more days of education without a heart. I am willing to invest in you — and our future — by voting yes on Measure…

I have just read "An Open Letter to the New Haven Unified School District Board of Education". I am neutral on Measure H. I only want to make a few comments regarding to the performance of New Haven Unified School District Board of Education over the last ten years, and it is not directly related budget cuts. 1. I fully agree with the author on the first sentence in her letter: "This district …   more ›

County Supervisor Lockyer Says St. Rose Hospital Critical to Alameda County

St. Rose Hospital strapped for funds

From County Supervisor Nadia Lockyer: My Word: Why St. Rose Hospital Must Survive For almost 50 years, St. Rose has provided cost effective and high quality care to both the insured and uninsured residents of Hayward and South  County communities. St. Rose is what a hospital should be, deeply rooted in the community it serves, focused on quality patient care and operated with a commitment to its mission and the belief that health care is a right, not a profit center. St. Rose provides 35,000 emergency department visits annually and more than half of its inpatient care is for low income patients. While a private hospital governed by an independent board of directors, St. Rose plays a critical role in Alameda County’s safety net system. …

February is National Snack Food Month, but that doesn't mean you should cave in to candies and chips. Many people don’t know the difference between a “healthy snack” and a marketing ploy. Poll: Where Will You Cheer On The Niners?

Also, a list of five local restaurants that play sports games.

It's time to break out your red and gold gear. Saturday's 49ers and Saints game has everyone talking and making bets, even the mayors of San Francisco and New Orleans. San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee and New Orleans Mayor Mitchell Landrieu have made a friendly wager against one another. The bet? Lee will be devouring Louisiana seafood, Abita beer and a Sucre king cake if the 49ers win, but if they lose, he'll be sending Landrieu seafood from San Francisco, Boudin sourdough bread and Anchor Steam beer. "Our 49ers are a source of pride for San Francisco and the entire Bay Area," Lee said in a statement. "While I'm excited to make this bet with Mayor Landrieu, we have no intention of sending anything to New Orleans. Go Niners!" Landrieu countered…

Anyway, best point is your 49ers got FIVE turnovers on the Saints, yet only won by 4 points.... your defense was worn down by the fourth quarter and the only thing that saved you was Alex Smith having the game of his career.... no way he repeats that again with a much better pass rush in his face.   more ›

The Holiday Nostalgia Blues

The holidays prompt us to think about what has changed and what has remained the same. Sometimes reminiscing can be difficult... but healthy.

I have always loved the holiday season, but I've had the blues this year. They've been coming with waves of nostalgia, memories, reflection and regrets. Anything and everything triggers the nostalgia, that bittersweet yearning for the past. All the Christmas songs extolling this most beautiful time of the year, the sparkling lights, the smell of our tree, the taste of ginger in a Starbucks latte. And then there are all the Christmas shows and movies. Because I'm a sucker for their seasonable brand of sentiment, I’ve been hitting those pretty hard: White Christmas and A Christmas Carol at the Lesher Center; San Francisco Ballet’s The Nutcracker; and a late-night viewing of the 1945 romantic comedy Christmas in Connecticut. These sights, …
