Rick Eymer made a "bush league" grammatical error that should have been caught. SeeRead More paragraph 2: "Since signing a professional contract with the Detroit Tigers in 1981, Melvin HAS RODE a roller coaster of success and failure." Even a sports reporter should know better than this.....

Bob Melvin is the best thing to happen to the A's in MANY years! Love him and the team! HowRead More appropriate it is that the team's "Root Beer Float Day" every year benefits the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation! Most important of all: KEEP THE A'S IN OAKLAND!!!

Just to keep the record straight on Mayors, Tom Kitayama was not mayor for 32 years, but 20 yearsRead More (59,62,69,74-91), just beating out Mark Green (1993-2012) by one year. There are 4 mayors that served for two years (Ratekin, Morales, Miller and Oliver). The rest served only one year (Dowe, Davis, Williams, Alvelias, Garcia, Franco).

The city is not in charge of the schools. They have nothing to do with them. They approved theRead More sports center though because Mark Green loves sports. Thanks for basketball and tennis courts Mark and giving residents tiny parks in return. At least his son's baseball park got a new shed for equipment and nobody has to pay for tennis lighting anymore. Then when the city decided we could not afford the fire department, the council decided NOT to sell the sports center so we could keep our fire department. Thank those who voted for that! And Mayor Green did NOT find a way to pay for a senior center, that was Alice Arce who was on the council years ago. Let's keep the facts straight. And after she was off the council, they started to charge seniors to use it. They discriminate according to the sport as to who has to pay and who doesn't. Kids do at the skate park, but nobody who plays tennis at night has to pay for lights like they used to before this mayor. Thanks Mayor Green. I hope the council knows we do pay attention. and we remember plus I thought Mayor Tom Kitayama was the longest mayor???? 32 years is longer than 19 and Mark Green is NO Tom Kitayama. Go ahead, look it up Keeping news correct is also important. School board? I hope you were reading this since we watch you too!

mayor for 19 years? he must of been doing something right. theres a bigger brighter picture, andRead More you would see it if you didnt just focus on negatives. and maybe you'll realize that he's not the only one in charge of things in Union City.

Sorry Rob - I didn't know Flushing was part of NYC. The rest of the points are accurate and supportRead More the argument. But I probably deserve a jab for being ignorant on the details of NYC.
Nick February 22, 2013 at 05:15 pm
Agreed, SF did not need a ball park to make itself into a major league town. SF was able to supportRead More 2 major franchises for more than 50 years. SF is a major metropolis and the Warriors want to cash in on it. They didn't even give Oakland a chance. They know it's where people want to be. Much rather see them throw an arena closer to downtown than the pier....something like the Madison Square Garden of the West.

Mr. Swift, thank you for all the ways you have given of yourself to the students, not just as aRead More teacher and coach. A person can get paid for doing a job, but there is no amount of money that can be paid to have someone care so much about others. You're in our hearts, truly forever.

It was most obvious duriing your senior yearRead More as a Mission High School wrestler when you forged ahead to become the California State Champion in your weight class. You have continued with that tenacity and leadership form that time forward. The bar you have demonstrated and established as a participant, teacher, coach, counselor, mentor, colleague, leader, innovator, organizer and friend is of the highest integrity and value. You have touched and influenced with love and compassion thousands of lives. Your presence and accomplishments will be a legend that will continue to influence lives for generations to come. You have Blessed all of us. Thank you! God Bless You! Your friend, Bob Jones

Nope, they're shutting down Mt. Davis and a couple sections in the top corner of the originalRead More structure. They will be tarping those off and reducing "capacity" to 53,000 in an effort to sell out games without the help of 2 for 1 deals, nor re-purchasing any leftovers to guarantee a sellout. Agreed, with all the violence, TV is the way to go.

Raider games is the way to go; If you get a club seat at the new Santa clara stadiuum ,you stillRead More have to buy a $ 80,000 dollor psl , just to be able to buy your season ticket? Gonna be some expensive hotdogs and beer there

Palomar, Well said comment! There should have been an early pass-interference call on the 49ers asRead More well. If the refs had been making calls in the early game, players would have had to play by the rules throughout. Instead they let there be numerous late whistles and late hits (where one guy had the runner stopped with a tackle and then other guys were allowed to hit him--very physically dangerous and with game-changing possibilities of injuries and fumbles) and also over aggressive shoving/fighting after the point (mostly started by the Ravens). I thought the officiating was poor and changed the nature of the game. Wasn't this almost the fewest penalty calls that these teams have EVER had? (I'd like to hear those statistics.) Did these teams change that much from their previous season play that they now weren't doing penalties? I doubt it.
Palomar Parkman February 5, 2013 at 12:39 pm
The game was very entertaining for fans of both teams. That is why you watch. The 49ers played likeRead More a young team. Flashes of brilliance and moments of stupidity. The non-calls by the refs changed the ebb and flow. Their performance was pathetic and that is supposed to be the 'best' ref crew the NFL has to offer. Bad calls and non-calls never even out. I expect to see the game played by the rules. I am not sure what the ultimate outcome would have been if it was properly officiated but it most definitely would not have been the same game I watched. What a disgraceful display by the NFL on their biggest stage.
P February 4, 2013 at 08:45 pm
It's is VERY hard to get into the Super Bowl in the first place. So the idea that the 49ers areRead More going to definitely get back there next year is wishful thinking at this point. It's unlikely, but I hope they do!
W. E. SPICER February 3, 2013 at 03:57 pm
Rough place, lots of fights, check with the Fremont Police Department on all the calls they getRead More there. The Patch will not print this just like the first one I put in.
Tim February 1, 2013 at 11:48 pm
The analysis isn't showing "fans" at all, but rather who people would like to see win theRead More Superbowl between the two teams that are playing in it. It's hard to root for a Baltimore team that features a murderer as a starting linebacker. No wonder more people want to see SF win. I am a New York Giants fan and I'd like to see SF win but it doesn't mean I'm a "fan".
Mike LeVien February 1, 2013 at 11:37 pm
And the Raiders? Look in the toilet bowl, of life.
Debbie White February 1, 2013 at 01:13 pm
This analysis is showing how many fair weather 9er fans there are, as soon as the super bowls overRead More they go away.

I posted a screen capture of a similar craigslist ad for tickets. It clearly shows a warning in REDRead More against wiring (sending) money. So Tina, would you feed the bears when there's a sign that says "Do Not Feed The Bears"? Or, how about where a revealing outfit in a crowd of perverts when you don't want the attention? Where I do totally agree with the problem didn't start with the buyer. It was definitely the seller (criminal) who is at fault here, but when it's clearly posted to not do something because of scammers ... and you do it anyway ... it's your fault.
Nick January 30, 2013 at 09:10 pm
Authorities have warned people, craigslist has a warning in red....RED, it probalby isn't the firstRead More time a craigslist buyer has been scammed. The police have warned people pay attention, if you must talk on the phone, find a safe spot and always look up. "Do not wire funds." In red, she goes ahead and wires funds? Come on. For that amount of cash, wouldn't you heed warnings? Geez, muggings, theft? Police have warned, talk on your phones in a safe area, look up when you talk, pay attention. Since you brought up crime, what about cell phones, there's a new law in place, do not talk on a cell phone while you are driving, what do people do, continue to talk on their phone while driving. You don't heed the warnings from authorities, you will have consequences, running over a cyclist, accidents. There are warnings to HELP you, prevent you from losses.
Tim January 30, 2013 at 06:23 pm
So in your mind Tina, there's no difference between VOLUNTARILY wiring money to someone versusRead More someone getting mugged walking down the street, property taken against their will? Sorry, Ms. Osgood acted stupidly in voluntarily wiring money to a stranger against warnings from Craigslist explicitly saying NOT to do so. I hope the criminal is caught and prosecuted but I do not feel sorry for people who lack basic common sense and basic reading skills.

haha, a Blanda Burger. It's an open faced single unseasoned patty with no sides, to go only.
Ari Soglin (Editor) January 29, 2013 at 07:56 pm
Something tells me a Blanda Burger would be tough to market. But a Biletnikoff Burger sounds tasty.
Mark Murphy January 29, 2013 at 07:50 pm
I'm not from San Francisco or Baltimore and have no interest in either team. Let me know when theyRead More have a Blanda or Billetnikoff Burger.
