I've looked at the Chromebooks and found a number if problems:
1. Must be connected to the…Read More Internet at a times. No net connection, no access to your documents or applications.
2. Can not install any software on the system. All applications are 100% web based.
There are other issues to address, like local backup of data, etc. They are cheap, but they are limited in what they can do.

To add insult to injury, New Haven Unified just divided the community by re-naming a Middle School…Read More after two Phillipino labor leaders instead of an Early" Alto California", Mexican Governor after wich the Town of Alvarado was named. They created a WAR betwean comunities with flag waving and graphiti tagging damages even the police call a "Hate Crime". They should be naming a NEW High School after those two labor leaders and not just re-naming an existing historical Middle School. When push comes to shove, the New Haven Unified School Board will pay for a name change but not help pay for school supplies or keep good teachers with a good salery with benefits. They re-name a Middle School After labor leaders, but don't honor the Labor that had dedicated a lifetime to our children....Our Teachers.

Right now, the park as a generic name called" Vertrans Park". Why not rename it to…Read More Itlion-Chavez-VeraCruse Park and have a statue of all Three holding picket signs that sat "Honor Labor" in 3 different languages. Itliong's in Tagolog, Chavez's in Spanish and Veracruze's in English. The new developer, of the SOLD Cabelio School, must pay $10,000.00 into the Union City park fund for each unit built. 46 units is $460,000.00 towards the monument and improvments to the park, unless Union City takes it away to other parks. Better be there at the "Planing Commision" meetings to get what you want.

The are 2-15 acre parcels. The School is on one and the park is on the other. To build homes, on…Read More 5,000 square foot lots, plus have access roads you need 1 Acre for every 4 homes. 46 homes would require 11.50 Acres, The odd shape of the property would require more area to lay out the homes on irregular lots so the answer is the park will stay. Hitting a home run could put the ball into a window on one of the new homes or drop the ball into a private yard with a dog.
Remember, all plans must be submitted to the planiing department of Union City for approval. The Panning Department can require the developer to provide park space or a contribution of $10,000.00 per unit twards new or existing parks. This is your opertunity to get some needed money for your park so be at the planning commisions meetings when this development comes up for a vote. Don't let them pacify you with just a re-naming of the park like they did with Alvarado middle School.

Migrant Education Program??? WTF!!! How about taking care of our own students. What is wrong with…Read More this District.? Imports from Oakland on the BART Express for Athletic purposes, School name changing, don't these fools have any conscience? Take care of the students of TAXPAYERS of Union City and So. Hayward. The East Side of Union City built out in the 1970s and they are still building on the West side. The young Families are buying on the West Side and Senior homes are being licenced on the EAST SIDE. If they live west of the Nimitz Freway, they need to be going to" Itliong-Chaves-Veracruz HIGH SCHOOL" and not 4 to 6 miles away at James Logan "Super Sized" School.

Labor Day, May 1, 2013 you can do it. You can change your school, to work for you.
In many…Read More countries, May Day is also Labor Day. This originates with the United States labor movement in the late 19th Century. On May 1, 1886, unions across the country went on strike, demanding that the standard workday be shortened to eight hours. The organizers of these strikes included socialists, anarchists, and others in organized labor movements.
The protests were not immediately successful, but they proved effective down the line, as eight-hour work days eventually did become the norm. Labor leaders, socialists, and anarchists around the world took the American strikes and their fallout as a rallying point, choosing May Day as a day for demonstrations, parades, and speeches. It was a major state holiday in the Soviet Union and other communist countries.
Labor Day is still celebrated on May 1 in countries around the world, and it is still often a day for protests and rallies. In recent years, these have often been targeted against globalization.
2006: May Day Protests Return to the U.S.
In 2006, United States once again saw widespread political action on May Day this year, centering on the subject of immigration reform. Various groups and communities, under the heading of "A Day Without Immigrants," held rallies, strikes, and consumer boycotts to support the rights of those working and living in the United States, and to protest a bill that would deport many illegal Aliens.

As a child of a family of 6 generations of Alvarado I do not understand the continual need to rename…Read More our landmarks. There are parts of our past, our heritage, and our memories. Union City has nothing to do with all of these political icons, it has to do with 2 small communities, Alvarado and Decoto becoming one and the history and families behind both. Itlion/Vera Cruz, Cesar Chavez, MLK were not part of these communities. They were advocates for the people of these communities, but they did not live, work, worship or even die here. If the city wants to honor them, then lets find a way that doesn't take away from the past but only adds to the future. I remember before AMS was built it was nothing but cauliflower fields and the old Harvey house in the distance where the Thrifty store would eventually be built. I was one of the first students to attend AMS, like my mother was one of the first to attend JLHS. Union City has grown so much over the last 40 years, can't we find a better way to honor those that we honor because they made a difference for us without destroying the past memory of the families, people and places that actually raised all of us through the growth and hard times?
They way it takes a village to raise a child, but they don't keep renaming the village. Kitiyama Elementary is a perfect example of honoring a member of the cities history, but all of the others were not part of the village.

And here is why....
May 14, 2013.
After following thew Elderly White man and woman home from the…Read More store,
Police said, the first suspect pushed both homewoners down to the floor and "forcefully removed the elderly female's jewelry."
The second suspect found a young adult male locked in a bedroom, struck him in the head with the gun, ransacked the bedroom and took more property, police said.
Both suspects fled on foot to a waiting vehicle, described as a newer model silver Audi sedan or BMW with chrome rims and tinted black windows.
The vehicle was last seen being driven past Kitiyama Elementary School onto Medallion Drive, according to a Union City Police press release.
When you shop in Union City, you may be followed home and robbed. Especially if you are Elderly and White.

Union City was suposed to "unite" the townships of Decoto, Alvarado and Hew Haven into a…Read More UNION that would stop the anexation into Hayward in 1959 when Hayward tryed to anex the whole lot into South Hayward. Today, most have forgotten this and want "one upsmanship" to re-name what the founders never intended to change. Keeping the identities and history intact.
Re-naming Schools after labor leaders when the School District does not Honor labor in Contracts, it has with contractors, service providers and even with it's own teachers, like what happened to all the Music Teachers and Band Leaders, does not honor the persons they are naming the Schools after at all. What Larry Itliong. Philip Vera Cruz and Cesar Chavez all had in common was getting workers united to gain a fair share in the wealth of California dominated by Agriculture and Land Barons. Now that the School District is commited to naming their schools after these labor leaders, they need to step up and stop playing Games with Labor. Union City needs to be a UNION TOWN and New Haven Unified needs to do it's part and not just give "lip Sevice" to ethnic groups by saying they "Honor Labor" when they realy don't. Watch who gets the School building and modification contracts with that $29.2 Million they had bestowed on them. it should stay local by hireing local workers through local labor unions, not give pink slips to garner Votes in local Bond measures and put "Labor History" into the curiculum.

We shall see Jerome, we shall see. If the School Board has premeditated their decision then I guess…Read More you may be right. On the other hand, they may wake up a sleeping lion. You see, we have lived here for 37 years. Our youngest is now 40 years old, they all played American LL, played in the UCSL, CYO, were involved in Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts, went to Cabello, Alvarado Middle School, and Logan where they played varsity sports, and we the parents participated as Coaches, League Officials, Logan Boosters, including Bingo and Sponsors. We have a network of long term friends in the neighborhood. So, my friend, if you think our opinion doesn't matter, think again.

One of the first things the New Haven Unified School Board should do is to "Honor Labor" by signing a "Project Labor Agreement" (PLA) where they will get competative bidding only from union Signatory Contractors and suppliers. They get Guanteed Quality workmanship, Fair Bidding, Lowest Reasonable prices without having to go back and fix what "LOW BALL BIDDING" gets you. "Disregard the Surgery" ? Perhaps an accurate statement, because the heart of Alavarado…Read More Middle School is about to be removed. This school board (the Filipinos) are incredibly biased and are paying back those who voted for them. They have no concept of who the stakeholders are, how to hold multiple public hearings at different venues and times, and basically how to run the schools business. How on earth did these people get elected? Oh, they are Filipino which over and over again is all the qualifications needed for the ignorant 27% of the city. As someone said above they people for the change are all about diversity as long as it's their ethnicity that is recognized.

I was hoping that we can see the good in his being charged in case they DO prove he is guilty. If…Read More this man touched a child, well, like the Lord said, better a millstone be hung around his neck... At least if he is guilty, the children are now safe. Usually a charge is only made when they believe they have enough evidence but he will have his fair day in court. I frankly would be surprised if he is now found innocent. With multiple victims and an adult eye witness to inappropriate behavior. But, we will see. We are all still welcome to voice our differing opinions and share thoughts even if we don't agree. So, since we all know that anyway, why argue? I just feel for the families and the children who may have been abused. I'm sure we all would agree with that at least. Child molesters, if he is one, target activities where they will be working with children. They can be perfectly wonderful, upright, involved, leaders in the community. They can still be molesters. Isn't it better when the parents love them, they give poor students extra things, is strict so his kids know better than to NOT listen to him. He has betrayed everyone's trust if he did this. That's why they call it shocking!!!

To think that New haven Unified received $29,200,000.00, that is 5 times more money than Measure H…Read More would have raised over 5 years and yet, they are already asking for more. This proves that "Measure H" did not "measure up" to the needs but only opened the door for more to come. WE are watching you NHUSD on how you spend this money and will use this to build support against any further "Measures" if you throw "good money after bad" this time. And next time you put a Measure on the Ballot, you had better not exept Multi unit appartments, retailers and industrial properties and just go after single family units like last time. If you had asked every living unit and retail to put up $80.00 per unit and not put $180.00 per non-senior citizen homeowners only, it could have passed and you would have gotten the same total amount of income.

Tim/Edward,
I moved out of Union City before people stopped sniffing the glue and woke up to the…Read More craziness that runs this city....once I saw voters pass a city sales tax increase and these year after year bonds for schools which I personally witnessed some schools from 2006 to present go down 2 levels such as pioneer from 8 rank to now a 6 and looks like 5 is not too far off....the naming of city streets/how the city council operates I really agree with most critics that Union City is nothing more than a gap between hayward and fremont...if you have kids do yourself a favor get into a better area with more upswing value UC is going nowhere.

Then you are BLIND. It is all about Race. Why change a perfectly respectable School name honoring…Read More both a Governor of EARLY CALIFORNIA and the EARLY STATE CAPITAL, a city, (Alvarado) to a Pinoy Union Labor movement (thugs) Names, Unless it was Racially and politlcaly motivated. The 28% wish to RULE the Town and SCHOOL and disenfranchise the other 72%. Pick a side, and join a GANG. Is this what we want our Schools to TEACH? Union City has had a lot of GANG VIOLENCE on both sides of the Freeway. The Filipino Flags, at the school Board meeting, should be a Clue to how racially motivated this issue is.

We should be angry at the juvenile bike rider for endangering the school kids who were still on campus! I really can't see the name change a racia issue as well.

You know that's actually a good idea. If anything, I think the $10,000 can be used to make a statue…Read More that can be built on the park that describes who the park was named after and all the contributions Vera Cruz and Itliong made. I mean, as a Filipino, it's pretty cool to have a school named after important Filipino figures, but the park seems like a good way for recognition instead and everyone is happy... or happier.
lb May 14, 2013 at 10:32 am
As a Filipino and AMS alumni, I'm iffy on the name change. As a Filipino, I really do appreciate the…Read More name change more than you guys know. Most people don't know these two men and a lot of it has to do with them not even being written in textbooks. The name change brings honor and it can also be an opportunity for people to really get to know a piece of American history. Now... the whole thing about "turf wars" and "gangs" is just so ridiculous. If you're against renaming a school because of "upcoming turf wars," what does that say about the Union City community as a whole? You're really spitting on Chavez, Huertas, Vera Cruz, and Itliong's memories by doing something as stupid as "fighting over territory." Those four people were PARTNERS... they were FRIENDS. They would never want people to be against one another, especially in their names. So if you appreciate their contributions, the "turf war" thing needs to stop. What I'm more concerned about is the money. $10,000 is not enough to change a school's name; there's more than just switching out blocks of letters. I'm opposed to draining people's money just to gain some ethnic recognition and really, that's not something I would be proud of. All in all, the name change is meaningful to me, but at the same time, it seems to come at an inopportune time. If anything, I think what would be more effective is building a statue with a template describing their contributions.
