How are we going to house them? Take a look at rents in all of this area. There are a good manyRead More people on Social Security or who are working that can't afford both rent and food. They fall thru the cracks when it comes to any kind of help. Rent control would help, but not eliminate the problem.
Ken Briggs July 22, 2014 at 10:49 am
get some jobs that will pay , even if you were to make $10.00 an hour it does not pay for rent in aRead More flop house . get some shelters made so that a person can take a shower and help them find work .
Edward July 23, 2014 at 10:14 am
We need low cost and subsidized housing for Seniors and Veterans. The VA has said it has 4 billionRead More dollars for housing for veterans. Where is it? Who knows where to go to get it? Rents have been rising and the Social Security Checks have been falling behind inflation here in the San Francisco Bay Area and in California in General. Now they want to fill the Jails with the homeless? Occupy, where are you?

Typical Democrat wanting to spend money like Brown’s crazy train. What is an early warningRead More system.. “brace for shock” ? What we need is an early warning system that warns us before a Democrat / Liberal opens his month.
Reginald "Rex" Henderson July 17, 2014 at 06:54 am
Just another extension of socialist Obama...
Rick Crockett July 19, 2014 at 10:38 am
Wow! Talk about Brown-Obama-Democrat Cronyism. Not only can the system be built and installed forRead More less than $500/node, it already has. I helped with one of the nodes with-in the past four years. The system (requiring less than 25 sq.ft. (donated) can be set up similar to a Home WiFi Security Cam with FTP access. Really it can be automatically monitored and maintained for free through a cooperating University. This is merely a $16 million a year hornswoggle going into the crony's pocket. Its dirtier than greedy profit. All that, lying cheating and stealing on top of it. Republicans in office don't deserve to be there because they do not study and know about the communities they represent or what they have already (and recently) funded. They are not doing their jobs in a two party system. Having formerly worked for the DNC the only thing good I can say about democrats is they at least learn their constituencies well enough to manipulate them.

To Robin: You left out all the men getting tanked at the Farmer’s Market and beating the crapRead More out of their wives … What is up with y’all wanting to kill somebody’s ability to grow a business? Y’all are commies …
Virginia Johnson July 15, 2014 at 03:51 pm
It would just be nice if our California Do Nothing Congress would put their time and efforts intoRead More helping our State with real problems instead of making their constituency feel like they are making a difference with alcohol and marijuana leniency laws. This is not real Government in action.
Virginia Johnson July 15, 2014 at 04:22 pm
p.s. Most of our Federal, State and Local Government Parks do not allow alcohol and that is whereRead More many Farmers Markets are located. How is this going to work out?

Sales Tax is the least progressive tax and is already 3 times higher (3.25% in 1964) over the pastRead More 50 years, hitting the middle class and poor the hardest while State and Federal income taxes on the wealthy are 50% lower, on the rich, than in 1964 and all set in motion by California's Republican Governors, Starting with Ronald Reagan. When California switches from the Gasoline Tax per Gallon to the proposed road use tax per mile driven (mostly enacted because of electric and high gas milage cars) then tack it on to the mileage tax.

I have no objection to a transportation tax provided the bill states the money collected from thisRead More tax is to be used "only for transportation'. That means, No Cigars, no trips to Vegas, no strip clubs, no phony business trips to Tahiti to study coconut production. I'm one of the people out here who, long ago, gave up trust in what's going on with our paid Government...

No discussion of how much this will actually cost us including interest, no discussion ofRead More opportunity costs and lost multiplier effects of public payrolls, and no discussion of how many empty mass transit vehicles are already running around in the few areas that are actually served by mass transit. Given that mass transit cannot take me from where I live to anywhere I wish to go in less than two hours - if it can do it at all - I'm personally not interested in spending more on mass transit unless and until they go back to the drawing board and consider discarding things like the overpriced BART trains for efficient inexpensive galloping geese that run on regular existing rail lines. Enough of the non-standard gauge millions upon millions per car Toonerville Trolley.

Make no mistake about it, they are going to be coming for your guns eventually, just a matter ofRead More time. They will first go for the "Registry" and I think the more informed of us all know that a registry has preceeded almost every gun grab in history. How did that registry work out for the Jews in WW2?

Suppose that within a mental evaluation for gun purchase, the citizen reveals a deeply held dislikeRead More and distrust of the Government. Some people would not want this person to be allowed to purchase just for this one "excuse." Suggest everybody focus on getting US corporations to return to the USA (from Asia) for all of their manufacturing. Nothing stops bullets like JOBS!

Note that this law would NOT have stopped the Isla Vista shooting because the parents did NOT callRead More the local mental health agency as well as the police. Note that by failing to check the California gun registry - available in every patrol car - they would not have even considered issuing such an order because they didn't think there were any firearms in the area - and neither did his parents, apparently. I have a lot of questions regarding this case - and one of them is that given junior had been making violent postings for more than a week or two, why didn't the parents cut off his funds and compel him to return home and be evaluated?

KMA: what is your point about how old is the S of L? Do you think wise philosophy has an expirationRead More date? Let's hope the sonnet by Lazarus is just as meaningful today as then. And, it's part of what makes the USA exceptionally great in the world and time. Of course, some limitations have to be included. These are embodied in the law. The problem today is that the law is not being enforced primarily because the head of enforcement and his minions want to let in more people who, they would like to believe, are likely to vote for their kind in the future.

I can personally attest that it's also possible to catch pertussis even if you've been vaccinated:Read More our younger daughter developed it after being exposed to a classmate who'd gotten it (despite vaccination) and passed it to me (I'd had a booster in 2013). When her pediatrician examined her she prescribed azithromycin for the whole family, and three of the four of us have been symptomatic (and both my daughter and I tested positive). We're now deemed to be past the infection stage; still in the crappy cough stage... none of us got to the "can barely breathe" stage, but I'm getting headaches from all the coughing.

I agree with TPH, I couldn't have said it better. He denies the conservative voters that helped himRead More beat Stark. Why do we need politicians that all vote the party line. Remember he only got 49% of the vote. That means 51% don't like him.
Nancy June 5, 2014 at 12:04 pm
Part of the 51% here. A conservative mil mom friend of mine said she was going to vote for him and IRead More set her straight: Just because he did one thing he was supposed to do doesn't mean he is the right or best person for this job. " The oversight committee said it's hard to monitor the funds because recipients often fail toRead More provide data to prove that their programs are beneficial. " If they don't provide data, don't provide them money. I guess the OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE doesn't understand it's purpose...

They understand their purpose - it is to rubber stamp actions and turn a blind idea to waste,Read More mismanagement, misuse, and embezzlement.
Nadja Adolf June 4, 2014 at 04:56 pm
Geoff - I can't see your posts here, although I have received copies in email. You're right - peopleRead More don't read the EULAs, they don't read the credit card contracts, and they sure don't read the full text of the ballot measures. I'm particularly amused at the shift of the veteran's housing funds from private individuals purchasing a house to subsidizing developers to build low income housing for veterans - that may or may not be leased to others. I suspect that very few people who voted for that measure realized what it actually does.
