We're very proud of Lisa here at UCPD. Lisa was also the "Dispatcher of the Year" inRead More 2011! Lisa donates time to teach young children how to use 911 and has spent over 27 years dedicated to keeping people safe. 911 communications can be a difficult, stressful, and quite frankly, an under appreciated job. Lisa brings optimism, kindness, and strives to make "every contact count". Lisa, our department and the good people of Union City...are thankful for your professionalism. Best regards, Ben Horner/UCPD.

.05 is a bit extreme. I would really hate to go to jail and get the fines associated for a singleRead More beer with my lunch. There is drunk then there is having a drink and you should not be punished for the latter.
Gary Allsebrook May 14, 2013 at 11:29 pm
You can get busted for DUI at any BAC if the officer deciders you're impaired.
James Nelson May 14, 2013 at 10:25 pm
Those with Power can't even maintain under the current legal limit, you think they will allowRead More someone to lower it? LOL
Edward May 21, 2013 at 11:48 pm
Cops always say "Drug money" but it could be money for "Video Games", or to toRead More get and "Galaxy s4" Phone or even pay a payment on that BMW they drove away in. No one will hire ex-cons so they become better thieves.
Green Is Better May 20, 2013 at 03:30 pm
Everyone should be careful and aware. My wife and I came home one night and noticed a couple ofRead More lights were on. I peaked into the house and knew something was wrong. We called UCPD and they got there within 4 minutes. The burglars fled out the back, jumped a fence, and took with them family heirlooms, electronics, etc.... The police said it was likely people looking for items they could quickly "fence" so they could get drug money. They probably would have killed us we were told, because people who needed a fix are they're only focused on that. If you're in their way, too bad. So lock your doors, be very careful when you leave your house. Remember Bairu? He'd be one of those types. Doesn't matter what race. This happens all over - from the Mission Blvd to the UC Blvd.

Update...3 men involved with at least 2 automatic weapons. On Monday afternoon about 14:06 hoursRead More (2:06 PM) officers are sent to 32675 Foxglove Way to investigate an unknown problem. (dispatcher could not understand broaken English) Officers determined that this was a home invasion robbery in which two BMA’s, (Police are afraid to say: "Black, Male, Adults"),follow an elderly East Indian ( Not White) to his home and force their way in as he is entering it. The suspects produce a black semi auto pistol and an "Uzi type" (Not legaly sold in California) weapon ordering the family to the ground. One victim is pistol whipped about the head.( After they forced there way into a locked bedroom) The suspects flee in a silver 4 door Audi or BMW type vehicle with a third suspect driving. Press release attached. Who says Union City is not Gang Infested? Homeowners, time for you to have more "firepower". The criminals already have their guns and are comming after YOU. Most east Indians are PACIFISTS AND DON'T OWN GUNS. Notice, they choose their targets that are defensless and wear a lot of GOLD.

Yeah..giving more money to the government is like giving a gallon of whiskey and the car keys to aRead More bunch of sixteen year olds.....I also like it when a tax on certain bills is called a "courtesy charge" Further, there would still be grow houses along with an exploding array of overpaid "regulators" necessitating energy gobbling multistory office buildings, government vehicles (requiring more government personnel to procure, service, and ...and...)....the horses are at the starting gate !!!
Edward May 14, 2013 at 12:43 am
If it was legalized, licensed, taxed and grown on "Licensed Raches", outside of town, WeRead More would not have Grow houses next door. It would be an agricultural crop of California, not Columbia or Mexico, and the taxes would balance the budget. The Fed would have to go along with it and there is the rub. Tobaco and Alcohol also has a lobby along with the Fundimentalist Churches. It's all about the Money and SIN.
UC May 13, 2013 at 08:05 pm
For those complaining and saying to legalize/decriminalize it, try living near this house like I do.Read More You've got a neglected house with a neglected dog living in the backyard whose only purpose in life is to protect the goods inside. It's easy to brush this off as no big deal when you aren't in the neighborhood (and this is a pretty decent neighborhood too) and like to smoke weed. But when you're stuck living near a house like this, you appreciate the work done by police here.
Geoff Burton May 14, 2013 at 01:28 am
It's going to suck for this misguided child when she's pregnant and the father is in prison.
Geoff Burton May 14, 2013 at 01:25 am
2 women and a man , 2 men and a women, sure why not. A goat can't enter into a contract nor can aRead More child,( NAMBLA members need to be hung from their members) Incest leads to genetic instability. I'm not for or against same sex marriage I could care less, but your assertion simply won't win the day.
Jenny May 14, 2013 at 12:01 am
"Just Saying", Men and women are humans. Animals dont speak, they walk on four legs...doRead More I have to continue? Thats a rather simple-minded comparison. Get it together.
Dennis May 10, 2013 at 05:23 pm
yes, but they don't live around here. LOL
Union City Resident May 9, 2013 at 10:33 pm
I have complained repeatedly about that shopping center and the transients, the beggars ALL THERead More TIME, the homeless sleeping on walkways in front of stores. I am convinced our city is going downhill FAST. We need leaders to take some action. Know of any?
Pete May 6, 2013 at 04:18 pm
Glad to hear it! Hope they issue more. They should come patrol around the Regents/Lowry area. CouldRead More give lots of tickets for distracted driving, but also speeding and failure to stop at stop signs. Would love to see it.
Michael N. May 6, 2013 at 02:38 pm
wow, 500 in one month. Distracted drivers is a problem, even with high fines it still goes on.. HopeRead More getting the word out on this problem will help, I'm aware now. Turn it off before getting in car.. pull over or park before turning it on.
Terrell Jones May 13, 2013 at 01:44 am
White people still in denial about how perverted they are.
Union City Resident May 7, 2013 at 06:38 pm
I was hoping that we can see the good in his being charged in case they DO prove he is guilty. IfRead More this man touched a child, well, like the Lord said, better a millstone be hung around his neck... At least if he is guilty, the children are now safe. Usually a charge is only made when they believe they have enough evidence but he will have his fair day in court. I frankly would be surprised if he is now found innocent. With multiple victims and an adult eye witness to inappropriate behavior. But, we will see. We are all still welcome to voice our differing opinions and share thoughts even if we don't agree. So, since we all know that anyway, why argue? I just feel for the families and the children who may have been abused. I'm sure we all would agree with that at least. Child molesters, if he is one, target activities where they will be working with children. They can be perfectly wonderful, upright, involved, leaders in the community. They can still be molesters. Isn't it better when the parents love them, they give poor students extra things, is strict so his kids know better than to NOT listen to him. He has betrayed everyone's trust if he did this. That's why they call it shocking!!!
Maxine E. Rodriguez May 7, 2013 at 02:30 pm
Read on Jason Zhang. This guy should truly be ashamed of himself for all the problems he has causedRead More these children and their families for his own gratification. Some of these kids will probably never get the help that they need and will suffer for the rest of their lives.
Edward May 15, 2013 at 10:23 am
It seems the original posts and discussions were all deleted and all that is left are my posts, outRead More of context. The "Reply" tag has been eliminated, so, instead of many "micro blogs" it is now just on long list of comments.

Here are some patch photos. you will notice the children marching with the" Filipino AdvocatesRead More for justice" banner all the way up to the New Haven Unified School District office. Speaking of the Superintendent.....................I wasn't there but I heard at last Tuesday'sRead More board meeting the board DID NOT accept Mc Veigh's recommendation for principal at Cesar Chavez next year. Now here it gets really strange, the board did their own investigation (could that also be a thurough study?). Maybe, since Mc Viegh's last recommendation to the board didn't turn out so easily done there is now a lack of trust by the school board with their employee?

Then you are BLIND. It is all about Race. Why change a perfectly respectable School name honoringRead More both a Governor of EARLY CALIFORNIA and the EARLY STATE CAPITAL, a city, (Alvarado) to a Pinoy Union Labor movement (thugs) Names, Unless it was Racially and politlcaly motivated. The 28% wish to RULE the Town and SCHOOL and disenfranchise the other 72%. Pick a side, and join a GANG. Is this what we want our Schools to TEACH? Union City has had a lot of GANG VIOLENCE on both sides of the Freeway. The Filipino Flags, at the school Board meeting, should be a Clue to how racially motivated this issue is.
Allen Castillo Geronimo March 29, 2013 at 12:57 pm
I agree we should not blame this lockdown on the name change. The name change and lockdown are twoRead More VERY deifferent things! Also, just because the name Alvarado Middle School has appeared, doesnt mean we have to talk about the change at this article. We have several articles about it already! We should be angry at the juvenile bike rider for endangering the school kids who were still on campus! I really can't see the name change a racia issue as well.
vanessa March 28, 2013 at 05:10 pm
Actually their was also American flags and actually at the last school board meeting their were tonsRead More of Filipino flags. But that isn't the issue. The issue is no more unnessecary money spending!! If you got it spend it on education. This school shutdown is probably a random act..lets not judge. The name change is by no means a race issue..that's ridiculous to assume that!

Notice how everyone defends the old White dude. If you know anything about Child Molesters(majorityRead More are White) its they put a Grown Mans Penis into a tiny child rectum and orgasm. Yet, White people feel they are the superior race.

May 14,2013 Union City, California. Police said the first suspect pushed both homewoners down toRead More the floor and "forcefully removed the elderly female's jewelry." The second suspect found a young adult male locked in a bedroom, struck him in the head with the gun, ransacked the bedroom and took more property, police said. Both suspects fled on foot to a waiting vehicle, described as a newer model silver Audi sedan or BMW with chrome rims and tinted black windows. The vehicle was last seen being driven past Kitiyama Elementary School onto Medallion Drive, according to a Union City Police press release. Now this is about rich Black kids, with guns and driving BMWs, Attacking Elderly Whites in Union City. A little "political Vandelism" did not do this. This is a true "hate crime" against Whites yet it is reported as a "home invasion Robbery". They followed the Elderly White guy home from the store and pushed there way into the house and hurt everybody as they robbed them. Pre-selected an Elderly White Guy, because of hate" thencommited a crime against him and his family. The Political painting on a Political office was not a hate crime but a "political Statement". Get it Strait.

you could be on to a super idea! Online education. No ecological impacts. Everyone works at theirRead More own speed and capability. They get the best teacher every time because we can choose the lesson. Do anytime before midnight the same day if there is homework just like in college for those who sleep late and are always truant in regular school, no computer or too young and nobody at home, can go to computer centers. LOL You can name your own computer instead of school names. We can afford it better, cheaper for parents than school taxes, no administrators everywhere you look. Okay, I was just kidding...I think it's one issue at a time. School naming, school board, violating the Brown Act, address issues of recall, new elections, listening to the public, elected officials not following district policy, School Superintendent who knew or should have known it was a Brown Act violation, should be fired or not?, put issue on ballot by referendum or not?, let other elected officials write to editor instead of meeting with their voters?, Nobody trying to correct the errors made?, then discuss new high school. I agree with other letter - students being abused in school for maybe years now, bad test scores and they all say they know why but as educators they haven't fixed the problem yet, budget is non existent but we can afford all new band and athletic uniforms for the school with the new name LOL Taxpaying without representation

If it looks like garbage, smells like garbage and acts like garbage... it is garbage.

Here's the problem. Millions, if not billions of dollars have been invested to "helpRead More communities" - from food stamps, EBTs, TANSFA payments, recreation programs, subsidizing "community activists" with a tendency to blame everyone but the offenders, and on and on and on. It hasn't worked. It has created entire generations of people who refuse to take responsibility for their own actions and lives. It has subsidized cultural values that disparage those interested in academics and career development. It destroyed families, leading to fatherless boys who are far more likely to wind up in prison than others because their available role models are the thugs hanging on the corner. I suggest that we all pause, weep a tear for this young man's supposed impoverished, miserable background, and then toss him in jail. Remember, not all criminals come from "deprived" or "unhealthy" backgrounds. Remember the Billionaire Boys Club?
Nadja Adolf May 2, 2013 at 04:34 pm
There have been hardened criminals *younger* than age 18. Jesse Pomeroy comes to mind; Lee BoydRead More Malvo. Mary Bell. Author Anne Perry, originally known as Juliet Hulme. Choi. Seisaku Nakamura. Kazutaka Komori. Noura Jackson. Satarō Fukiage. Brian Draper and Torey Adamcik. Attina Marie Cannaday. Peter Woodcock. Note that drugs, alcohol, firearms, and even US residency or nationality are completely unconnected to the crimes committed by this international cast of juvenile villains. American, British, Canadian, Jamaican, Japanese, Korean, New Zealander - they're all here, They've used almost every weapon imaginable, although only one juvenile poisoner, Graham Young, is widely known - mainly since after being sent to Broadmoor as psychopathic (a psychopath or sociopath, not a psychotic) following his first crimes, he made use of the resources there to expand his knowledge of both chemistry and toxicology. Released as fully cured after nine years, he proceeded to happily resume his career as a poisoner.
