I am all for supporting the the victims of this senseless crime and will be there to show it…Read More whole-heartedly, but Patch, you are adding fuel to the fire of the gun-grabbing politicians ban on "assault rifles". The only assault rifle on that scene was in a locked vehicle trunk and was not used in the shooting at all. What were used, and found on the scene, were four handguns. The loss of all those innocent lives is a true tragedy, but we can not resolve this tragedy, by creating another.

Thank you for writing about Youth For Peace. There is so much senseless acts of violence happening…Read More in our community. We need to continue to empower our youth to take their streets back, choose peace and stop the violence.

I have not watched any of them which makes the event that much better. Also just putting old movies…Read More and music together is incredible. One of my favorites is With Words and Music, from 1937. You can watch it online http://www.bnwmovies.com/with-words-and-music.html

No need for a bleeding heart badge. The victim mentality acts perfectly well as a replacement.
Janice P Ellis December 27, 2012 at 02:02 pm
You're correct, Voter with an ID - Africans did sell their own people into slavery. But, who did…Read More they sell them TO? To be fair, we need to include the ENTIRE ugly picture, not just one part of it. And, if you really think this is about reparations, you really ARE clueless. No amount of money could undo what has been done, nor make what happened ok.
I've read your posts on this forum for awhile now, and you're always ready and willing to hurl insults. You never seem to have anything positive to say, which says a lot about who you are. Then, you label people such as myself as "bleeding hearts". Believe me, if it separates me from you and people like Darwinian Justice, who always have something negativeand insulting to say, I'll wear the "bleeding heart" badge with honor.
Janice P Ellis December 27, 2012 at 01:42 pm
You see, Darwinian Justice, that's what is so warped and twisted about thinking you know someone…Read More inside and out based on posts in this forum. I grew up in Berkeley in the '60's, where it really was the ultimate melting pot. I was taught that we're all the same - and I believe that to this day. We all have hopes and dreams and fears.
We all have our crosses to bear, Darwinian Justice, but, you're totally off-base as to what you think mine are. Thankfully, racism isn't one of them, nor is my feeling like a victim as a result of what the black race has gone through. So, you can save your zingers for someone else. And, no, obviously I DIDN'T live through 400 years of slavery, but, as a black person, I live with the after effects of it.
Getting back to Kwanzaa, my family doesn't celebrate it, but, I can understand why something like Kwanzaa exists. I absolutely don't believe Kwanzaa WOULD exist if the black race hadn't been oppressed and enslaved, nor would America have seen the likes of the Civic Rights movement of the '60's. There would have been no NEED for them. One has no need to show strength unless another has tried to show one as weak.
As so often happens on these forums, some have no desire to seek to understand, but, only seek to insult and put others down. I find it very interesting that those people rarely use their real names.
As usual, everyone is talking, but, no one is listening. All some of you seem to care about are insults.

I am really confused by your statement " Keep in mind that not all of us go for this.....…Read More descendants of American who annexed the place." I am not clear what your are trying to say. Latinos and Mexican Americans are " Americans" in every respect. Latino pay taxes, join the army, get college educations, vote...etc... Most Latinos were born in the USA.
Regardless, Hispanics are a large portion of the population. There are many, many Latinos who live and work in the Newark area. Dia de Los Muertos is a major day of celebration for many of those of Latino ( in particular- Mexican/ American) decent.
We will have to see if there is enough support for a more formal city wide celebration.

That's something you are going to have to work out with your city government, your local chamber of…Read More commerce, and any local civic organization out there that can sponsor such an event.
Celebrations don't just happen out of thin air.
They require planning and coordination.
And if you want a "Day of the Dead" celebration out there, or a celebration for "St. Swithen's Day", you have to work with other like-minded people and organizations to make that possible.
If you belong to a labor union or a trade guild, chances are that they already budget and prepare for parades on Memorial Day, Labor Day and even the 4th of July.
They use those events to get out their name and organizational presence to the public.
It might not hurt to see if there is interest, there.
Look into how Mardi Gras is done in New Orleans every year.
"The Day of the Dead" might just turn into a regional celebration like Mardi Gras.
Keep in mind that not all of us will go for this, including this writer and descendant of the Americans who annexed the place, but if you convince enough people out there that this could also be a civic celebration and that people could make money off of it so that it could draw in the chamber of commerce, you might have a celebration that everybody in the area could enjoy.

This building was surveyed by the City of Fremont in 1980. The DPR 523 says that the building was…Read More built in 1932 by Joseph A. Silva. There was an existing structure that was built after 1895 (no date specified). The existing structure held Joe's Pool Room. It looks like the existing structure was incorporated into the larger building. The 1932 building covers three lots defined in the 1888 Niles map.

I agree with the original review. FANTASTIC show and a MUST see! I went the 2nd night and returned…Read More with friends the very next weekend. I have also seen Avenue Q twice before - once the national touring group and once, a local production. This troupe is OUTSTANDING. I haven't been to a Stage 1 production before and thought that perhaps they had 'imported' the singers. How lucky we are in this area to have such high caliber performers. The voices were amazing and the characterizations just delightful.

I'm a bit confused by "none-yah", you say you enjoy the show, yet you bash a positive…Read More review of the show? Your actions make no sense and hold zero value. You have zero problem voicing your opinion (and that's all it is), but you don't have the courage to state your name, you hide behind an unimaginative alias as if you're some sort of anonymous hero, saving the lives of the reader, but from what? For someone with no ties to stage 1 you know an awful lot about the board members.
I've seen the show once before and I plan on coming again. By far the best show I've seen held at stage 1, ever! Music was great, set was great, actors were great, and the audience got behind every joke! The puppets looked amazing, the effects looked professionally made. The show was well thought out and executed perfectly!
So for "none-yah" I'm a bit baffled by your comment and personal attack on Cheyenne, but you did get one thing right, the show is amazing!
Great article Cheyenne!

I saw this show opening night as well and I have too been a part of Stage 1 and let me just say this…Read More show is really a knock out!!! Had me laughing immediately! It's a small cast with an ENORMOUS talent and stage presense! I also listened to the Broadway tracks as well as videos and I must say the puppets in this show out do Broadways bar FAR! I thought avenue Q sounded sooo stupid before I saw this show , now I can't stop singing and talking about it!!!! MUST SEE! You won't leave disappointed, you'll most likley leave with a smile on your face!
But Cheyenne, the song "the internet is for porn" is with all the other males other than Rod.(: no worrries though!
Awesome review. I agree1 00%!
