The Southern Alameda County Buddhist Church was established in 1961. It is a member of the Buddhist Churches of America and practices the Jodo Shinsu denomination of Japanese Buddhism. Southern Alameda County Buddhist Church has a Dharma school, athletic association, Japanese language school, women's association and choir. The church also holds three annual fundraisers: a crab feast, bazaar and Obon festival. Services are held on Sundays in English and Japanese.
