Help keep the memory of Zoe Inciong alive.
This Saturday, family and friends will hold the third annual “Zumba for Zoe,” a fundraiser to benefit the Zoe Means Life and Zoe Inciong Memorial scholarships. Led by veteran zumba instructor Mimi Quiroz, the event will take place from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in Room Z4 at Cesar Chavez Middle School, located at 2801 Hop Ranch Rd.
The fundraiser and scholarships honor Zoe, who passed away in July 2012 from a rare form of bone cancer just days after her 16th birthday.
Zoe would have graduated this year, according to the New Haven Unified School District.
Organizers are asking for a donation of $5 donation for zumba entry or $20 for a zumba ticket and t-shirt.
Part of the proceeds will go toward the Zoe Inciong Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded to graduating scholar athletes. Zoe herself played on the basketball and water polo teams at James Logan High School while maintaining a 4.39 GPA.
Proceeds will also benefit the Zoe Means Life Scholarship, which is awarded to students who face or have faced medical challenges.
Seven Logan and Conley Caraballo High School students were awarded a total of $4,000 via the scholarships this past June, according to organizers.
