This Week: Holiday Lights and Food Drives; Bone Marrow Registration

See what events are taking place in and around Union City from Dec. 9 to 15.

Heads up! Here are five events taking place in and around Union City this week that you don’t want to miss.

Photos With Santa (and Your Dog) At Southland Mall

Santa Claus will be taking photos with your furry friends at Southland Mall in Hayward on Monday, Dec. 9 and Monday, Dec. 16 from 6 p.m. to closing. Choose from various photo packages and photo accessories starting at $15.95. For more information about having your dog or cat take photos with Santa, click here.

Santa will also be taking photos with humans at Southland Mall starting Friday, Dec. 13 through Tuesday, Dec. 24. Photo packages also begin at $15.95. Santa will take photos Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 6 p.m. On Christmas Eve, Santa will be available for photos from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more details, click here.

Basswood Court Holiday Lights, Caroling and Food Drive

The Tamarack Knolls Neighborhood Watch and Basswood Court residents are kicking off the holiday spirit in Union City with a holiday food drive, Christmas light display and caroling from girl scouts on Thursday, Dec. 12. The event will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and will serve as a food drive for the Tri-City Volunteers. Don't forget your food donation!

Edible Holidays Around the World

Join Wholes Foods Market Fremont, Edible East Bay and Edible Silicon Valley for a holiday feast from around the globe from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12. The chef-curated, four-course meal will feature Mexican tamales, Indian/Fijian crab curry, Chinese sticky rice stuffing, along with traditional American beef roast and pies. The meal comes with two glasses of wine or beer. There will also be cooking demos. Tickets for the event are $25. To register for the event, click here.

Queen Anne Court Holiday Lights and Food Drive

The residents of Queen Anne Court are at it again with their dazzling holiday light display. The long-running annual event begins this Saturday, Dec. 14 and runs through Sunday, Dec. 22. Donation bins will be left out for the Alameda County Food Bank. Last year, the neighborhood collected 820 pounds of food and raised nearly $2,000 for the Alameda County Food Bank.

Bone Marrow Registration Drive

The Asian American Donor Program is hoping to find a donor match for Edwin Gonzales, a 47-year-old father of two from Daly City this Sunday, Dec. 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Cornerstone College, located at 725 Whipple Rd. Gonzales was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia and is in urgent need of a bone marrow transplant and the best chance of finding a match would be from an individual of Filipino or Asian descent.
