In Photos: Painting the Town Purple

Union City's Relay For Life organizers rallied the troops and the community Saturday.

Dozens showed up Saturday to "Paint Union City Purple." The purpose of the event was to raise awareness to the upcoming .

The event takes place in Union City on Aug. 27 and 28 at James Logan High School. During the event, teams of up to 15 people camp out and take turns walking or running around the Logan track for 24 hours, with a representative from each team on the track at all times.

"I joined because I lived in Union City for eight years and I didn't know about Relay," event chair Jennifer Dudley said. "Everyone I meet is going to know about Relay."

Volunteers lined Alvarado-Niles Road near and encouraged drivers to stop at the the mexican restaurant. Once there Mexico Lindo donated 25 percent of each purchase to Union City's Relay For Life.
