Decoto Fire Halls

An article in the Alvarado Pioneer, from August 25, 1950, talks about the Decoto Fire District buying land for the new fire hall. This is the fire hall (or station) that is on 10th Street and is no longer being used as a fire hall. The article also mentions the previous fire hall, and that purchased property is "near the present fire hall".

So, where was the previous fire hall before the exiting one on 10th Street? A quick look at the Sanborm map for Decoto from 1932, shows a "Fire Hq." building on 10th Street, and on a lot just two houses up from J Street, on the same side of the street as the current fire hall. Google Maps shows that this fire hall was on land just next to the existing fire hall, just to the south. There is currently a house on the site, which is more recent than the other two houses next to it (which show up on the 1932 Sanborn map).

We now know the location of the older fire hall, but there are no known pictures of the fire hall. I can only hope that someone out there has some old photographs of Decoto that will eventually come to light.
