UNION CITY LIBRARY

The Union City branch of the Alameda County Library, located in the William Cann Civic Center, serves the city and the nearby residents outside the city limits.  As of June 30, 1999, the city had 20,665 registered borrowers, 90.8 percent of whom were residents.  The existing facility was designed to serve a population of approximately 50,000, well below the current population.

Friends of the Union City Library (FRIENDS) - The FRIENDS, headed by Myrla Raymundo, as President, is a group of community-minded people interested in supporting and enriching their public library.  Through fundraising and active volunteer participation, FRIENDS supplement regular library services and materials.  They also lend political support to the library and encourage greater communication between the library and the community.
