Celebrate Filipino Food and Culture at Adobo Festival This Weekend

The festival will be held Saturday and Sunday at Veterans Park in Union City.

Stay local this Labor Day weekend and enjoy flavorful food and nonstop entertainment at the , a roving annual Filipino celebration to be held in Union City this weekend.

Held at various locations in the Bay Area each year, the free event will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Veterans Park, located at 4525 Dyer St. in Union City.

The festival is centered around Filipino staple adobo — a dish made of pork or chicken marinated in a sauce of crushed garlic, vinegar, bay leaf, black peppercorns and soy sauce, browned in oil, and then simmered in the marinade either. Though the two-day gathering will include cooking demonstrations and an adobo contest, it offers much more than just food, according to organizers.

In addition to food, there will be a number of vendors, raffle prizes and a bottomless serving of live entertainment, which includes the Kiddie Pop Star Competition (for ages 4 to 10) and the Adobo Festival Variety Show.

Special guests include GMA Pinoy TV stars Rachelle Anne Go, Steven Silva and Sansu Ramsey. Ramsey is a Newark resident whose .
