Logan Cross Country Invitational to be Held Saturday

James Logan High School will hold its second annual Ghebray Invitational this Saturday at Garin Regional Park. 

The event will feature a variety of races starting at 9 a.m., including a 1.35-mile course for middle school boys and girls, 2-mile race for frosh/soph and junior varsity students and a 3-mile varsity course, along with an open race for a 3-mile alumni cousre. There will also be a 400-meter race for children 10 and under.

Though the deadline to register for the invitational has passed, participants will be able to sign up the day of the event, according to organizer Coach Lee Webb.

Those interested should contact Webb at lwebb@nhusd.k12.ca.us or 510-304-7172. Fees are $15 per individual, $50 per division ($250 max for all divisions). Fees for middle school participants are $5 per individual ($100 max for both divisions). Registration for the open race is $15 and $50 per teams of five for the alumni race.

The invitational is named after Yosef and Giliat Ghebray — two of the best cross country runners to graduate from Logan, according to Coach Lee Webb. Both went to UC Berkeley and were named All-Americans in their sport. The two also qualified for the Olympic Trials and hope to qualify for the Olympic Trials in 2016, Webb added.

Yosef and Giliat will also be special guests at the Gathering of Champions Dinner, which will be held Friday night at 6:30 p.m. at James Logan High School. Tickets for the all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner are $10. To reserve a seat, contact Aileen Agustin at abba63@sbcglobal.net or 408-797-7756.
