"A good Opening (Ceremony) will set the tone for the Games that follow."
– Peter Ueberroth, Chairman of the Los Angeles 1984 Olympic Organizing Committee
How did they do it? A giant globe appeared out of thin air in Beijing? Did you know that Michael Jackson was the first choice to close the “84 Los Angeles Games? How did that U.F.O. fly over the L.A. Coliseum in 1984?
The book title Secrets of the Olympic Ceremonies by Myles A. Garcia answers those questions and reveals many more behind–the scene’s secrets of the beautiful and extra ordinary Olympic ceremonies.
Myles Garcia has been a lifelong aficionado of the Olympic Games, especially the ceremonial aspects of it. He worked behind the scenes with Los Angeles 1984; and was a cast member in 1996. Myles is a member of the ISOH, the International Society of Olympic Historians.
