New Haven's Chief Academic Officer Named Cupertino Superintendent

Wendy Gudalewicz, who served for the past three years as Chief Academic Officer of the New Haven Unified School District, was appointed Wednesday night as Superintendent of the Cupertino Union School District.

“Anyone who knows Wendy also knows this day was coming, that she would be running a district of her own someday, because she is a wonderful person and an extraordinary educator,” New Haven Superintendent Kari McVeigh said. “We’re grateful to have had her with us for the past three years. Her influence on the children of New Haven will be felt for a very long time.”

Dr. Gudalewicz, who earlier this month received her doctorate degree in educational organization and leadership at St. Mary’s College in Moraga, will assume her new duties July 1. Her new district serves approximately 19,000 kindergarten through eighth-grade students at 20 elementary schools and five middle schools in the city of Cupertino and the surrounding area.

Superintendent McVeigh said the process of finding Dr. Gudalewicz’s successor already is under way and that the District hopes to name a new Chief Academic Officer before the end of the current school year.
