Logan Wrestlers Featured in Sports Magazine

Two Logan students were named SportStars Magazine's Top 10 Bay Area Wrestlers to Watch.

Youth sports magazine SportStars highlights James Logan High School’s wrestling team in their latest Bay Area edition, labeling it “the NCS’s most storied wrestling program.”

Released last week, the magazine spotlights four of Logan’s top grapplers — Logan juniors Jacob Donato, Clayton Hartwell and Jacob Macalolooy and senior Artemio Flores — in a feature story about the high school’s return to dominance in the wrestling arena. [Editor's note: the magazine identifies the students as sophomores and juniors.]

The magazine also names Macalolooy and Hartwell among their “Top 10 Bay Area Wrestlers to Watch,” with Flores earning a nod for being on the radar.

The feature story — “Colt Revival” (pg. 12) — details the school’s wrestling history over the last 20 years with a shortlist of Logan wrestling legends, such as Olympic medalist Stephan Abas and Jesse Reta, who was the first wrestler to ever win four consecutive NCS titles, according to the magazine.

A dominant force throughout the 90s and 2000s, the Colts hit a lull in 2011 and 2012, failing to send wrestlers to the NCS finals.

But that may change this year, with “The Three Horsemen” — Donato, Flores and Macalolooy — and Hartwell poised to turn things around.
