Gala Nets Over $28,000 for New Haven Schools Foundation

The money raised during the March fundraiser will be used for programs benefitting students and teachers in the New Haven Unified School District.

The New Haven Schools Foundation (NHSF) reports that the proceeds from its March 22nd fundraiser, “A Night on the Red Carpet,” exceeded $28,000, an increase of 25% over last year’s event.

The funds will enable the Foundation to continue its support of quality programs benefitting the students, teachers, and schools of the New Haven Unified School District.  The event was held at the Mark Green Sports Center in Union City. The gala was well attended by members of the New Haven academic community, local civic leaders, and many other Foundation supporters.

Entertainment included casino games, a Texas Hold ‘Em Poker Tournament, and Hollywood-style photos on the red carpet. The stars of the night were the major event sponsors: Too Much Fun Club, Inc., Masonic Homes of California, Washington Hospital, Emerald Packaging, and Tri-CED Community Recycling.

The Tri City Voice provided media sponsorship for this event. Fourteen casino table sponsors provided additional funding that added greatly to the proceeds, and many others donated auction prizes or made in-kind contributions.

Event Chair Bridget Russell also expressed grateful appreciation to the event committee and to “Lifetime Achievement Award” winner Fremont Bank, for its generous donation commemorating their 50th the East Bay Community Foundation provided a crowd-motivating matching grant that added $5000 to the proceeds of the live and silent auctions.

“The success of our annual fundraising event was due in large part to the generosity and commitment of our local educators and school district leaders, who share our mission to provide excellent experiences for our children and teachers,” said NHSF President Rebecca Venable.
