Lions Club Student Speakers Contest

The Union City Lions Club is participating in the statewide 75th Annual Student Speakers Contest. Our local competition will include six students from the acclaimed Forensics Club at Logan High School.

The winner of the Union City contest will go on to compete, until eliminated, at zone and region contests, and ultimately at the California state level.

Each student will present a speech and take a position on the 2010-2011 topic, "Enforcing Our Borders: State Versus Federal Rights." Presentations will be evaluated by the judges, and the highest-scoring competitor will be named the winner.

People who wish to observe the competition and hear the speeches must be inside the City Council Chambers before the doors close at 7:00 PM. There will be no interruptions to the speakers' presentations.

This year the MD4 Lions Student Speakers Foundation will provide scholarships totaling $103,500.00. From this amount, each of the fifteen District winners will receive a $4,500.00 scholarship, each of the four Area winners will receive an additional $6,500.00 scholarship and the winner of the Multiple District Four Contest will receive an additional $10,000.00 scholarship.
