From the New Haven Unified School District
Natalie Hughes, 7, a second-grader at Searles Elementary School, is the winner of the New Haven Schools Foundation’s drawing for four box seats to Justin Bieber‘s concert this Saturday in Oakland. Natalie was particularly surprised and excited, Foundation Executive Director Barbara Aro-Valle, because her parents hadn’t told her they had entered the drawing.
Through the drawing, the Foundation raised $2,200 toward its pledge to donate $100,000 to the District’s co-curricular and extra-curricular programs. If 100 people donate $100 each toward the goal, Foundation President Cindy O’Brien has announced she will contribute $1,000 to the cause. The deadline is Oct. 15. More information is available on the Foundation’s website (www.nhsfoundation.org).
The Foundation, a registered non-profit, also has opened registration for its annual “Mutt Strut,” a fun walk/run for dog lover and their pooches, Saturday, Oct. 13, on the grounds of the Masonic Home, above Mission Boulevard. Festivities start with a pancake breakfast at 8 a.m. and the walk/run begins at 9. The registration form is available online (http://nhsfoundation.com/new/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/Mutt-Strut-REG-20121.pdf).
