Union City Highlighted as Local Government Success Story

The City of Union City is one of the strongest local governments in the state, according to the League of California Cities and the California City Management Foundation.

The agencies profiled Union City in their Strong Cities | Strong States campaign last week as one of the state’s success stories.

In particular, the campaign highlighted the City of Union City’s economic development initiative, their climate action plan and the community’s overall support of government services.

“Union City prides itself on its ability to provide superior service to our residents and businesses. One of the many successes in Union City is that we encourage our citizens to connect with us. The more people interact with their city government in a positive and constructive way, the better we can serve them.” said Union City City Manager Larry Cheeves.

The Strong Cities | Strong States campaign also notes our diverse city as being the “Gateway to Silicon Valley.”

The website also includes testimonies from education and business leaders in the community.

"The city of Union City is a solid and supportive partner in our mission to educate the 13,000 children of the New Haven Unified School District. We work together on facilities usage, parent support, outreach to at-risk youth and many other projects, and the first priority that we share — always — is to do what's best for the children,” New Haven Unified School District Superintendent Kari McVeigh said.

According to a press release from the campaign, Strong Cities | Strong States is part of an initiative that highlights ways in which California cities and the state share important policy goals. The profiles also demonstrate that cities and states can be successful if they have the vision, authority and capacity to complete innovative projects.

The goal of Strong Cities | Strong State is to promote the innovation and experience of local officials and reinforce how vital cities are in building a better California. The campaign will continue to profile cities throughout the state on its website with profiles that include photos, videos, testimonials and other media to show how each city is elevating the quality of life for its residents.
