State Senate Redistricting: Tri-Cities Stay Together
Union City will continue to share state senator with Newark and Fremont.
Based on the preliminary final redistricting maps released Friday, Sen. Majority Leader Ellen Corbett (D-San Leandro) will continue to represent Union City.
It is the only redistricting change in which Union City will remain whole with its Tri-Cities counterparts.
If the maps are approved Aug. 15, Union City will continue to share a state senator with Fremont, Newark, Hayward, San Lorenzo, Sunol and Milpitas.

Corbett, who was first elected to the State Senate in 2006, represents the 10th District. She will be termed out in 2014.
The main differences of the new boundaries are the exclusion of Pleasanton and San Leandro and the 10th District's push south to include more of San Jose.

In an email sent to Patch through her spokesperson, Corbett encouraged constituents with concerns about the new boundaries to communicate with the redistricting commission before it takes final action on Aug. 15.
"Whatever the final outcome of the new district lines, I look forward to serving my constituents in the 10th Senate District until the end of my term in 2014,” Corbett said.
