Mayor Carol Dutra-Vernaci to be Honored By Sen. Corbett

From the Office of Senate Majority Leader Ellen M. Corbett:

Senator Corbett will honor Alameda County Blue Star Moms President &
Founder Julie Ramirez as the “Woman of the Year” for the 10th Senate District.

Julie founded the Alameda County Blue Star Moms / Chapter CA23 in early
2009. This wonderful non-profit organization has helped hundreds of local
military families with school supplies, toys for the holidays, coats and even
bicycles for children, as well as resources for parents of deployed soldiers,
returning veterans and any interested supporters of military families.

The Senator will also be celebrating the outstanding accomplishments of other
local trailblazing women in the 10th Senate District. Those honorees include:

• Dr. Norma Ambriz-Galaviz, Merritt College President
• Dr. Gari Browning, Ohlone College President
• Sue Chan, Fremont City Councilmember
• Dr. Susan Cota, Former Chancellor of Chabot-Las Positas Community
College District
• Carol Dutra-Vernaci, Union City Mayor
• Pat Gacoscos, Union City Councilmember
• LaDonna Harris, Alameda County Chief Probation Officer
• Jennifer Hosterman, Former Pleasanton Mayor
• Susan Muranishi, Alameda County Administrator
• Anu Natarajan, Fremont City Vice Mayor
• Nancy O’Malley, Alameda County District Attorney
• Sandra Spagnoli, San Leandro Police Chief
• Diane Urban, Hayward Police Chief

The event with be on tonight at 5:30 p.m. at the Pleasanton Veterans Memorial Building.
