Hearing on Proposed Aerial Surveillance Drones Postponed

The Alameda County Sheriff's Office is seeking to purchase an unmanned aerial system.

OAKLAND—The Office of Alameda County Second District Supervisor Richard Valle announced that the January Public Protection Committee is postponing a hearing on unmanned aerial systems. 

The Alameda County Public Protection Committee meets on the second Thursdays of the month in the chambers of the Board of Supervisors located at 1221 Oak Street 5th floor in Oakland, CA.

The next Public Protection Committee meeting will not take up the issue of the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office proposal to purchase an Unmanned Aerial System.

The next Committee meeting will be held on January 10, 2013. 

The only scheduled item will be a hearing on immigration detainers.  Please be advised that a large number of public speakers are expected on this item.  The Committee will only consider recommendations on this item.  

Supervisor Richard Valle was elected in November 2012 to represent Alameda County’s Second District which includes the communities of Hayward, Union City, Newark and portions of Fremont and Sunol. He serves as the Chair of the Alameda County Public Protection Committee – a subcommittee of the Board of Supervisors which provides oversight over the Public Defender’s Office, District Attorney’s Office, Probation Department, and Alameda County Sheriff’s Office.
