Congressman Honors Life of Union City Marine Killed by Suspected Drunken Driver

Congressman Eric Swalwell spoke to Congress about Marine Lance Corporal Andrew Silva

U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) addressed Congress to honor the life of a 23-year-old Union City Marine killed after being hit by a suspected drunken driver from Emeryville.

“Today I rise to honor the life of 23-year-old Marine Lance Corporal Andrew Silva of Union City, California, who was tragically killed in an automobile accident on March 25th – just over one month after returning home from serving in Afghanistan.

“Lance Corporal Silva was a 2009 graduate of James Logan High School in Union City, where he played football.

“After high school, he joined the Marine Corps Reserves where he most recently served in a Combat Logistics Battalion based in San Jose. 

“In February, Lance Corporal Silva returned from a deployment to Helmand Province in Afghanistan supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.  

“Although his life was cut far too short by a heartbreaking tragedy, Corporal Silva did what many do not – he answered the call of duty to serve in our nation’s Armed Forces. 

“Lance Corporal Silva’s work as a Marine illustrates brightly the heroism of the service members in our military and their dedication to our country.  His brave service will be remembered by a grateful nation.

“Lance Corporal Silva is survived by his wife and two-year-old son.  My thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family. May he rest in peace.”
