City to Host Compost Giveaway, E-Waste Drop Off on Saturday

Community members can also rid of unwanted pharmaceuticals at the event

From the City of Union City

In appreciation of your participation in the yard waste and food scrap recycling program, the City of Union City is joining with Tri-CED Community Recycling and Allied Waste Services in hosting another Compost Giveaway Day and E-waste Drop-off event. This year you can also drop off your unused medicines.

It takes place on Saturday, April 6, 2013, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at Tri-CED’s Union City facility, located at 33377 Western Avenue. Two bags of the nutrient-rich soil amendment will be distributed to residents who who present a coupon clipped from the quarterly Allied Waste/Tri-CED newsletter mailed to all Union City households. The compost is made from yard waste and food scrap materials collected as part of Union City's organics recycling program.

Pharmaceutical Take Back

For the first time, we'll also have a secure drop-box for your pharmaceuticals. We'll be accepting pills in Ziploc bags, pills or liquids in their original containers, and ointments and creams. Proper disposal is the right thing to do for safety and for the environment. Pouring meds down the drain, flushing them down the toilet, or tossing them in the garbage poses a serious threat.

While you’re at it, recycle that old TV or computer

Since Tri-CED also accepts electronic waste, residents can take advantage of Compost Giveaway Day to drop off that old, unused TV. We'll also accept computers, monitors, laptops, keyboards, printers or telephones. There is no charge to drop off your electronics and we’ll even help you unload.
