City of Union City Launches Social Media Pages

The unveiling of the Twitter and Facebook pages are an effort to connect with residents, businesses and visitors.

It’s long overdue in today's digital age, but the City of Union City is finally getting with the times and launching its official Twitter and Facebook pages today.

At 9 a.m., the City will unveil its official Twitter (@UnionCity_gov) and Facebook pages.

The move to launch the social media pages is part of the City’s effort to connect with the community, said Union City’s Marketing and Communications Manager Rhea Serran.

“It’s important to have different avenues of communications and reach out not only to our residents but businesses and visitors that come to our city, too,” she said.

The social media pages will be used to post timely updates about events, announcements such as construction updates and discuss local businesses, projects and developments. Serran encourages interaction and will monitor the pages during the City’s work hours.

Serran is the City of Union City’s new communications strategist. Having started in April, she is charged with not only managing the social media websites but overseeing a number of projects to strengthen the relationship between the city and its residents and “bring awareness about the wonderful place of Union City.”

“We want people to remember Union City is a great place to live, work and play,” she said.

Serran is currently working with developers to create a new and improved City of Union City website that will launch early next year, she said. She will also create an e-newsletter and a printed newsletter to be inserted in Union City Leisure Services’ seasonal activity guides. (She also posts City of Union City events and announcements on Union City Patch!)

While the social media pages will be great places to discuss city happenings, Serran stressed emergencies should be reported by calling 9-1-1 and that serious concerns should be addressed the City of Union City directly.
