By Bay City News—

BART service between Fremont and South Hayward stations remains shut down due to a fatal accident investigation but a spokesman said service should be restored by 7:30 a.m.

A Richmond-bound train hit a person on the tracks just south of the South Hayward station at about 11:25 p.m. Tuesday, BART spokesman Jim Allison said. The person was confirmed dead at the scene. It is unknown what the person was doing on the tracks at the time of the incident, according to Allison.

The riders on the train involved in the incident were transferred to another train. Further details about the incident were not immediately available. Allison said service is expected to be restored by 7:30 a.m.

Riders should seek alternate transportation in the area. An unrelated issue has caused delays between the Hayward and Bay Fair stations this morning. Allison said riders should use Bay Fair station when heading out for their morning commute during the investigation.
