Woman in Crosswalk Critically Injured by Hit-And-Run Driver

The suspect's vehicle was found unoccupied in Union City a short time later.

By Bay City News—

A hit-and-run driver struck and critically injured a woman walking
in a crosswalk in Hayward on Wednesday evening, a police lieutenant said
Thursday.

At about 6:10 p.m., emergency crews responded to a report that a
pedestrian had been hit at the intersection of Tahoe Avenue and Hesperian
Boulevard, about a block from Mt. Eden High School, Hayward police Lt. Eric
Krimm said.

Krimm said that based on the investigation, it appears that the driver of a black sedan heading south on Hesperian struck the victim, a 31-year-old woman, and continued without stopping. There is no traffic light at that intersection.

Police found the suspect vehicle unoccupied in Union City a short time later, according to Krimm. Investigators have not yet identified a suspect in the case.

The woman who was struck remained in critical condition Thursday
morning, according to Krimm.
