Union City Woman Dies in Fremont Accident

A 73-year-old woman from Union City was struck by an SUV in Fremont Monday night. She was transported to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

A 73-year-old Union City woman died after being struck by an SUV while walking in Fremont's Irivington district Monday night, according to media reports.

The Fremont Argus reports that the accident occurred at about 5:30 p.m. on Washington Boulevard near Olive Avenue.

The woman was transported by ambulance to Washington Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries, Sgt. John Flynn of the Fremont Police Department told the Argus.

The victim's name was not released as relatives are still being notified.

According to witnesses, the woman was wearing dark clothes and suddenly stepped in the roadway in front of the SUV, which was headed westbound on Washington Avenue, the Argus reported.

The driver was a 22-year-old Fremont man. No charges are pending against him and alcohol or drugs were not involved in the accident, police told the newspaper.
