Two Union City residents were arrested Tuesday for using counterfeit money at Morgan Hill businesses, police said.

Marcell West, 22, and Shazda McCormick, 24, were arrested after police responded to the Target shopping center in the 1000 block of Cochrane Road around 9:30 a.m., police said.

McCormick allegedly used a counterfeit $100 bill to purchase items at the Target store and then got into a white Cadillac, police said.

Police found the car in the same shopping center in front of the Staples store where McCormick had allegedly made a purchase using another fake bill.

Police arrested her as she left the Staples. Officers then found West sitting inside the car and purportedly found six more fake $100 bills inside his pants pocket.

They were both book at Santa Clara County Jail.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Morgan Hill police Detective Scott Martin at (408) 779-2101.
