Two Arrested with 20 Pounds of Weed in Trunk

Officers arrested an Oakland man and an Arcata woman who were found with 20 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of their car Tuesday night, police said.

Cmdr. Ben Horner’s got some good advice for drug dealers: "Don’t smoke weed when you’ve got 20 pounds of weed inside the car."

It may sound like common sense, but two men apparently didn’t get the memo when they were arrested Tuesday night behind the Denny’s located at 30163 Industrial Parkway SW on the Hayward-Union City border.

The area is known for criminal activity, which often spills into Union City, Horner said.

officers in an unmarked car were conducting a special enforcement operation in the area when they spotted a suspicious, all-black vehicle parked behind the diner around midnight.

When officers approached the vehicle, they found a 33-year-old Oakland man and 24-year-old Arcata woman smoking weed, which gave them authority to search the car, Horner said.

According to Horner, officers found 20 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of the car and 18 grams of hash on one of the suspects. Additional evidence in the car suggested drug sales, Horner said.

The man and woman were arrested on suspicion of drug-related charges and transferred to Fremont Jail.

Union City Police Department’s narcotics unit is following up with the investigation.

FYI, the suspect from Arcata was female. Both are facing felony possession for sales and transportation charges. Ben Horner/UCPD.

An appeal to all Prohibitionists: We simply cannot continue with a policy that has proven itself to be a poison in the veins of practically every free nation on this planet. Even if you cannot bear the thought of people using drugs, there is absolutely nothing you, or any government, can do to stop them. We have spent 40 years and trillions of dollars on this dangerous farce; Prohibition will not suddenly and miraculously start showing different results. Do you actually believe you may personally have something to lose If we were to begin basing drug policy on science & logic instead of ignorance, hate and lies? Maybe you're a police officer, a prison guard or a local/national politician. Possibly you're scared of losing employment, overtime-pay, the many kick-backs and those regular fat bribes. But what good will any of that do you once our society has followed Mexico over the dystopian abyss of dismembered bodies, vats of acid and marauding thugs carrying gold-plated AK-47s with leopard-skinned gunstocks? Kindly allow us to forgo the next level of your sycophantic prohibition-engendered mayhem! Prohibition Prevents Regulation : Legalize, Regulate and Tax!

Driving while smoking pot is brain dead. With 20 lbs pot in your trunk, that's just stupid! They should be treated just like a DUI! Decriminalize pot now!

Don't they already profit on alcohol and tobacco sales? What's the difference?
Paul Brewer March 10, 2012 at 03:44 PM
Tim....the difference is that the more revenue we feed the insatiables that hold sway, misspend, and abuse OUR money, the more power WE forfeit and HAND OVER. It's like saying We already have theft...so more won't matter.

KEEP GOVERNMENT OUT OF IT !!!! They couldn't manage a one float parade or Sunday picnic without insane overruns and creating a new "agency"
