Two Arrested with 20 Pounds of Weed in Trunk

Officers arrested an Oakland man and an Arcata woman who were found with 20 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of their car Tuesday night, police said.

Cmdr. Ben Horner’s got some good advice for drug dealers: "Don’t smoke weed when you’ve got 20 pounds of weed inside the car."

It may sound like common sense, but two men apparently didn’t get the memo when they were arrested Tuesday night behind the Denny’s located at 30163 Industrial Parkway SW on the Hayward-Union City border.

The area is known for criminal activity, which often spills into Union City, Horner said.

officers in an unmarked car were conducting a special enforcement operation in the area when they spotted a suspicious, all-black vehicle parked behind the diner around midnight.

When officers approached the vehicle, they found a 33-year-old Oakland man and 24-year-old Arcata woman smoking weed, which gave them authority to search the car, Horner said.

According to Horner, officers found 20 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of the car and 18 grams of hash on one of the suspects. Additional evidence in the car suggested drug sales, Horner said.

The man and woman were arrested on suspicion of drug-related charges and transferred to Fremont Jail.

Union City Police Department’s narcotics unit is following up with the investigation.
