UPDATE: Police Wednesday night identified the victim of a fatal shooting on Tuesday evening as Ruben Gonzalez Partida, 49, of Union City.
Partida had been shot several times, according to police, in the 600 block of Whipple Avenue near where he lived.
The shooting death was the second homicide in the Decoto neighborhood in three days.
According to Lt. Mark Quindoy, officers responded to reports of shots fired around 10:15 p.m.
Partida was found critically wounded and pronounced dead later that night, Quindoy said.
The shooting occurred on a busy thoroughfare in the community and police said it's possible there were witnesses to the shooting.
The shooting is also the second homicide in Union City in 2011 and the second in less than a week. On Saturday night, less than a mile away, 34-year-old Union City resident was shot and killed on the 33600 block of Eighth Street.
Police are not sure if the shootings are related or if the crimes were gang-related, Quindoy said.
