A fire in the Taco Bell on Alvarado-Niles Road in Union City caused extensive damage and will cause the business to be closed for repairs, according to Alameda County Fire Batallion Chief Terence Carey.
Carey said 25 fire personnel battled the blaze, which started around 3:43 a.m. this morning.
“There was heavy smoke and zero visibility upon entry into the building,” he commented. “We had to make vertical intervention to release the smoke by cutting into the roof.”
Carey said the specific area of origin of the fire was in the trash can located in the kitchen. The cause is under investigation.
“It took about 20 minutes to extinguish the fire,” said Carey.
