SWAT Teams Search Homes for Suspects in July Shooting

Police locked down a block of E Street and a block of Seventh Street during the search for suspects in a July 28 daytime shootout on Fourth Street that left one man injured.

SWAT units searched homes in Decoto Wednesday morning for several people suspected of involvement in , police said.

Starting at 7 a.m., SWAT officers from Union City, with assistance from the major crimes task force, CHP and Fremont and Newark police, served search and arrest warrants at two homes in the neighborhood, locking down the 700 block of E Street and the 33500 block of Seventh Street, according to Lt. Ben Horner of the Union City Police Department.

A number of people have been detained and the involved parties are currently being questioned, Horner said. Though an arrest warrant was served, it is unknown at this time if the intended target was detained, he said.

This morning’s search was a follow-up to a daytime shooting that left one man injured with a leg wound and eight suspects in custody last month.

The July 28 shootout occurred on Fourth Street between D and E streets at about 12:45 p.m., stemming from what may have been a domestic argument. The argument escalated with two groups of individuals exchanging fire in the middle of the street.

Up to 20 or 30 people were believed to have been involved, police said.

The Wednesday morning search was unrelated to another shooting that occurred early Wednesday morning. At about 3:20 a.m., .
