Suspects in Deadly Jewelry Store Robbery Ordered to Stand Trial

Police are still searching for a fourth suspect connected to last May's deadly robbery, which left an 18-year-old local suspect dead.

Three Hayward men involved in a jewelry store robbery in San Ramon that left one man dead last May will stand trial on murder charges, the Contra Costa Times reports.

After two-day preliminary hearing in Contra Costa County Superior Court that ended Thursday, the three Hayward suspects — Krishneel Prasad, 20, Gregory Jamal Louis, 22, and Michael Porter, 21 — accused of being involved in a robbery that left one of their accomplices dead will go to trial for murder and three counts of robbery.

A fourth suspect, Manuel Jovan Arroyo, also of Hayward, is still being sought by police.

The case comes from a May 30, 2012 incident at the Gold N' Treasure on San Ramon Valley Boulevard.

The suspects intent was to rob the jewelry store, police said. Their plans were thwarted though when one of the men, 18-year-old Kibrom Bairu — who worked at a popular Union City coffee shop — was shot by the store's owner, Everett Parvin, after Bairu brandished a gun, according to police.

Bairu died at the hospital later that night.

Prasad, Louis and Porter are facing a murder charge because of the provocative act doctrine, which holds active crime participants liable for a homicide when it occurs in the course of the crime.

The three suspects are all being held in jail and will return to court on April 8.

Arroyo, the last suspect, has an outstanding warrant out for his arrest for robbery and homicide with bail set at $1.3 million.

If you have information about the whereabouts of Arroyo, San Ramon police asks you to contact Sgt. Goldberg at 925-973-2763 or email cgoldberg@sanramon.ca.gov.
