Theft Among Incidents Reported to Police

Union City Police Log Dec. 3 – Dec. 9.

The following is a selection of incidents reported in a weekly crime log prepared by the city manager's office. The document contains only items of note. Here are two incidents in that letter that occurred on Dec. 3 and 8.

Friday, Dec. 3

During a routine traffic stop on Friday night, a patrol officer stopped a vehicle in the area of Industrial Parkway and Whipple Road. As the vehicle stopped, the passenger exited and ran off. The officer stayed at the vehicle with the driver as additional officers responded to search for the passenger who fled. The driver was arrested for an outstanding warrant. Officers didn't find the passenger but found a handgun nearby that he may have discarded while running away.

Wednesday, Dec. 8

Two suspects flashed a gun on a Wal-Mart loss prevention officer after attempting to steal from the store. On Wednesday night, the two suspects entered Wal-Mart in Union Landing and gathered items to steal, which they placed in a clothing hamper. As they were leaving the store, a loss prevention officer confronted them. One suspect pointed a gun at the officer. The suspects then drove off in a vehicle onto Dyer Street. The investigations unit is following up on possible leads to identify the suspects.
