Sexual Assault and Multiple Armed Robberies Among Incidents Reported to Police

Union City Police Log Nov. 27 – Dec. 2.

The following is a selection of incidents reported in a weekly crime log submitted to the city manager. The document, dated Dec. 3, contains incidents from Nov. 27 to Dec. 2.

Saturday, Nov. 27

An 8-year-old girl was found at on Decoto Road after she asked the staff for help. The girl was walking to her mother's home when she accepted a ride from a man who saw her walking by herself. The driver made inappropriate comments to the child and dropped her off on Decoto Road near the café. The child was familiar with the café and asked for help, upon which officers arrived to investigate.

At 11 a.m. on Saturday morning, a man carrying a gun entered a on Alvarado Boulevard and ordered customers and staff onto the floor. He fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money from the bank tellers toward Fair Rach Road.

Officers also investigated a domestic dispute in an apartment complex near the Rite Aid on Alvarado Boulevard. The victim was kept against her will by an acquaintance for three days. During her captivity, she was battered and was found with injuries to her body and face. The suspect was found in the apartment and arrested without incident for Domestic Battery and Unlawful imprisonment.

Monday, Nov. 29

An armed robbery occurred in the vicinity of Decoto Road near Royal Ann Drive. Two suspects pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded his money. As the suspects fled, the victim noted the license plate number. The victim had be robbed the previous day by the same two suspects. Using the license plate number, Union City police were able to locate the vehicle and driver on Comet Circle. The suspect was arrested upon being identified by the victim. A handgun was located and the second suspect was identified.

On Monday night, a man was caught after a burglary at RS Manufacturing on 7th Street. When officers arrived, they found a roll-up door ajar and saw the suspect jumping a fence. Officers gave chase and arrested the suspect for burglary, possession of burglary tools and methamphetamine.

Tuesday, Nov. 30

The store located on Decoto Road was robbed at gunpoint at approximately 9 a.m. The suspect entered the store and pointed a handgun at the store clerk, demanding money from the cash register. He fled on foot toward the BART Station.

Wednesday, Dec. 1

Eugene Melendres Ramos, 36, was arrested after allegedly sexually assaulting a two-year-old inside of the in the Union Square Marketplace. The toddler was shopping with her grandmother and aunt, and went to return a ribbon to a display rack in the adjacent row. Within a few moments, a family member walked to the next aisle to locate the child and saw her pinned to the floor by Ramos. The family member screamed for help as Ramos fled. Citizens gave chase and subdued Ramos, holding him until law enforcement arrived. The suspect, a registered sex offender, was arrested and booked on numerous charges.

On Wednesday evening, a man was robbed at gunpoint at the BART parking lot on 11th Street. The victim said he was walking in the lot when two suspects armed with a handgun confronted him. The victim threw his briefcase at suspects and fled. The suspects took the briefcase and fled in a dark-colored SUV toward Decoto Road.

A lone, armed suspect robbed the on Decoto Road, also on Wednesday evening. The suspect entered the fast food restaurant and placed an order. When the clerk opened the cash register, the suspect pulled out a handgun and demanded the money. The suspect fled on foot across Decoto Road.

Thursday, Dec. 2

An armed robbery occurred at the Taco Bell restaurant on Industrial Parkway. Similar to the Burger King incident, the suspect entered the restaurant, placed an order, and pulled out a handgun when the cash register opened. The suspect grabbed the money and fled on foot. The suspect was described as a black male, 20 to 25 years old, 130 to 160 pounds and approximately 5'10". The case is under investigation.
