Roof Collapses in Santa Elena Way Fire

No injuries were reported.

A one-alarm fire caused the roof to collapse on a vacant home on Santa Elena Way Thursday night.

Fire crews responded to a multiple reports of a roof on fire at a single story home on 31353 Santa Elena Way at about 7 p.m., according to the Alameda County Fire Department.

Firefighters arrived within minutes and found flames shooting through the roof, fire department spokeswoman Aisha Knowles said.

There was heavy fire in the attic area of the home. Firefighters had to remove part of the ceiling in order to put out the fire but were able to extinguish the blaze within 15 minutes, Knowles said.

The attic was destroyed as a result of the fire, she added.

Fortunately, the home was empty as it was under renovation and no injuries were reported, Knowles said.

According to Knowles, the fire is believed to have been electrical, caused by a fixture outlet in the ceiling.
