Authorities are asking the public’s help in identifying a man who they say robbed and attempted to rape a woman who was walking near a popular Union City intersection last week.
Police said the victim was walking alone on the 2400 block of Almaden Boulevard near Alvarado-Niles Road at about 10:30 p.m. last Sunday.
She had recently left a local store when she was approached by a man holding a handgun.
The suspect pointed the gun at her, forced her to the ground and took her money.
He then tried to sexually assault her but was started by a car that passed by, police said. He fled on foot northbound on Almaden Boulevard.
The victim suffered minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital.
The suspect was described as biracial (African American and white) male, 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10 with a medium build, dark hair, dark eyes and a tattoo on the right side of his neck.
He was wearing a light colored hoodie with the hood over his head, black pants and black shoes.
A police sketch of the suspect is above.
