Police Log: Woman Runs Naked During Soccer Tournament; Suspects Lead Cops on Chase

The following is a summary of significant crime and incidents reported in Union City between April 26 and 29 as released by the Union City Police Department. Reports have been edited for Patch style. 

FRIDAY, APRIL 26

Haven’t you heard of knocking?

A witness reported seeing a man trying to kick in the door of an 8th Street home at around 4:15 p.m. An officer found the suspect on 6th Street. The suspect admitted that he jumped a rear fence of the home but said that he knew the residents. The officer contacted the homeowners and confirmed that the suspect did not have permission to enter the home. The suspect was arrested and transported to jail.

Maybe you should have stopped at the red light

Officers witnessed a car run a red light in the area of Mission Boulevard and Lafayette Avenue at around 7:35 p.m. The driver continued driving to a home on Teddy Drive. When the car parked, one of the occupants tried to run away but was caught and arrested after a short foot pursuit.

SATURDAY, APRIL 27

Woman running naked during soccer tournament wasn’t halftime show

A woman reportedly ran naked through Shorty Garcia Park during a soccer tournament. Officers found the woman on the soccer field. When asked if she had taken drugs, she replied that she was on “love potion #9." She was transported a hospital to receive medical attention.

Gunshot victim keeps mum

Officers were sent to a local hospital at around 10 p.m. to investigate a 57-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his arm. The man, however, did not cooperate with officers and switched his story multiple times. Police are conducting a follow-up investigation.

MONDAY, APRIL 29

Suspects do the ol’ pull over, then drive off routine

A woman was arrested and a male suspect remained at large Saturday after police tried to pull over a speeding car on Whipple Road. The incident occurred at around 3:10 a.m. The driver initially pulled over and got out of the car, but then hopped back in and fled. The suspects ultimately parked in front of a home on the 900 block of H Street and fled on foot. Officers set up a perimeter and eventually arrested a Union City woman who was found hiding in a backyard. The driver, a male suspect, was not apprehended but identified. A warrant was issued for his arrest.

It’s 4:25 p.m. Do you know where your kids are?

An officer spotted three juveniles walking on Mann Avenue near Starling Drive at 4:25 p.m. One of them reached for something in his waistband and turned away from the officer. The officer ordered them to stop and saw the grip of a handgun sticking out of the main subject’s waistline. The gun turned out to be an airsoft pistol. The juvenile was cited and taken to his parents.
