Drunk driver passes out in Burger King drive-thru

Officers were sent to the Burger King located on Alvarado-Niles Road and Santa Maria Drive after a concerned citizen reported a drunk driver passed out in the drive-thru.  According to the report, when officers arrived, they located an intoxicated female driver in the parking lot.  She was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to jail.

Shooting at In-N-Out

Police received a high volume of 9-1-1 phone calls early Sunday morning reporting a shooting that occurred at the In-N-Out Burger located in Union Landing.  Police responded to the scene at about 12:30 a.m. and located an adult male with a serious gunshot wound to the chest, according to the report.  Officers closed the parking lot and interviewed a number of witnesses.  Several rounds entered the restaurant but no one was injured.  The investigations unit responded to the incident and was able to identify a person of interest in the shooting. The following day, detectives arrested a known gang member from Hayward as the principal shooter and booked him into jail on suspicion of a number of serious felonies, including attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, among others. The victim is currently in the hospital and is expected to recover.

Fight at Gerry’s Grill

While police were investigating the In-N-Out shooting, officers were sent to the nearby Gerry’s Grill, also located in the Union Landing complex, to respond to an assault with a deadly weapon incident.  According to the report, a fight erupted at the popular restaurant with multiple suspects striking a victim with a chair and bottle. The suspects fled before officers arrived.

Fight at SDES Alvarado hall

Also early Sunday morning, officers responded to the SDES Alvarado hall in the area of Watkins and Smith streets to a reported fight between 25 people. According to the report, no victims were located but one extremely intoxicated individual was arrested.

Monday, Oct. 17

Decoto gang members involved in Fremont stabbing

On Monday morning, officers responded to the Union City BART station at the request of the Fremont Police Department to search for suspects in a stabbing that occurred in Fremont. Through their investigation, Fremont police determined that the suspects involved in the stabbing were gang members from the Decoto district and had fled the crime scene in a bus headed for the BART station. Officers searched the bus and area but did not locate the suspects. The suspects were eventually found later at a Fremont residence, the report said.

Police find 300 illegal pills, arrest three during routine traffic stop

Officers arrested three adults and recovered more than 300 illicit prescription pills following a routine traffic stop on Whipple Road and Huntwood Drive, according to the report. Police also located several methamphetamine pipes. One of the arrested individuals also had several warrants for arrest, the report said.

Tuesday, Oct. 18

Unknown suspect breaks into Cigarettes Cheaper via roof

A commercial burglary occurred at the Cigarettes Cheaper located on the 31800 block of Alvarado Niles Road. According to the report, an unknown suspect unbolted access panels on the roof and lowered himself down into the business.  The loss is currently unknown at this time.

Wednesday, Oct. 19

Woman chases burglar with hammer, burglar evades police in high-speed chase

A homeowner on Flint Street returned to her home and found a burglar inside. According to the report, the homeowner armed herself with a hammer and chased the burglar down the street.  The victim then returned to her home and called police. A patrol officer located the fleeing vehicle as it entered the freeway southbound on Interstate 880. A high-speed pursuit began but was terminated when the driver began driving recklessly in excess of 100 miles per hour and endangering the public by driving on the shoulder of the roadway, the report said. The investigations section is following up on the case in an attempt to identify the suspect.
