Police Log: Two Arrested During Union Landing Car Burglary Sting; Drunken Motorcyclist Drops Bike On Himself

Reports also include multiple drunk driving and domestic battery arrests.

The following is a collection of reports prepared by the Union City Police Department. The document contains only items of note that occurred Oct. 25-31. Reports have been lightly edited for Patch style.

THURSDAY, OCT. 25

Home burglaries

Between 10:20 and 11:30 a.m., a home on the 4100 block of Oliver Way was burglarized. The suspect(s) made their way into the home by breaking the rear kitchen window.

A home on the 700 block of A Street was burglarized between 9:15 a.m. and 3 p.m. The suspects got in through the rear bathroom window.

A home on the 32000 block of Regents Boulevard was broken into between 11:30 a.m. and 3 pm.. The burglars came in via a rear kitchen window.

FRIDAY, OCT. 26

Man arrested for domestic battery

At 6:36 p.m., officers responded to a residence on the 32000 block of Minturn Court to investigate a domestic disturbance. Arriving officers determined that a couple had been involved in a heated argument that escalated when the boyfriend choked and slapped his girlfriend. Officers arrested the boyfriend on suspicion of domestic battery.

Man arrested with concealed firearm after walking in the middle of the street

Also on Friday, an officer on routine patrol in the area of Whipple Road and Amaral Court saw a suspicious person walking in the #2 lane of traffic. The officer contacted the subject, who began to struggle with the officer. The officer was able to detain the subject in handcuffs and found that the subject had a concealed, loaded firearm hidden in his front waistband. The subject was arrested and transported to jail.

SATURDAY, OCT. 27

Two arrested on child endangerment and drunken driving charges

Early Saturday morning about 12:15 a.m., an officer on routine patrol in the area of Alvarado Boulevard and Lowry Road saw a vehicle being driven with faulty headlamps. The officer stopped the vehicle and found the driver to be intoxicated. In addition to the driver, a female adult passenger and her 6-year-old child were inside the vehicle, unseat-belted. The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol and child endangerment. The passenger was arrested for an active arrest warrant, and the child was released to his grandmother.

Motorcyclist injured in solo vehicle accident

At 2:23 a.m., officers responded to a solo motorcycle accident in the area of Mission Boulevard and E Street. The injured motorcyclist appeared intoxicated. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment and the investigation report was sent to the District Attorney’s office for review.

SUNDAY, OCT. 28

Drunken driver, friend arrested

Early Sunday morning at about 2:27 a.m., an officer on routine patrol in the area of Alvarado-Niles Road and Hop Ranch Road saw a vehicle being driven in an erratic manner. The officer made an enforcement stop and eventually arrested the driver on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol after he failed a series of field sobriety tests. His passenger was also arrested when she attempted to intervene in the driver’s arrest. She was arrested on suspicion of interfering and obstructing an officer in his duties.

MONDAY, OCT. 29

Man arrested on suspicion of domestic battery

On Monday night at about 10:45 p.m., officers responded to a residence on the 30000 block of Granger Avenue to investigate a domestic disturbance. Arriving officers found that a husband and wife had been involved in a heated argument that escalated when the husband punched his wife. The officer arrested the husband on suspicion of domestic battery and transported him to jail.

TUESDAY, OCT. 30

Drunken motorcyclist drops bike on himself

At 7:24 p.m., officers were sent to investigate a report of a motorcyclist dropping his motorcycle on himself at the intersection of Alvarado-Niles Road and Western Avenue. Arriving officers found the rider was intoxicated and arrested him after he failed a series of field sobriety test.

Two arrested during Union Landing car burglary sting

At about 8:00 p.m., members of the Union City Police Investigations and Community Policing Units set up surveillance in and around the Union Landing Shopping Center in an attempt to apprehend people committing vehicle burglaries in that area. The officers saw two suspicious people drive into the parking lot and begin to look into rental vehicles. Through the course of the officer’s investigation, the officers determined that the two subjects had burglarized a vehicle in the city of Newark. Both subjects were arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen property.

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 31

Drunken woman found passed out with car running

At about 3:58 a.m., officers were sent to the intersection of Whipple Road and Railroad Avenue to investigate a report of a female passed out behind the wheel of a running vehicle. When officers attempted to contact the driver, the vehicle began to roll forward while the driver still appeared unresponsive. Officers had to shatter a window and stop the vehicle before it collided with anything. The female driver was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol.
