The following is a summary of significant crime and incidents reported in Union City between Jan. 9 and Jan. 16 as released by the Union City Police Department. Reports have been lightly edited for Patch style.
WEDNESDAY, JAN. 9
Two arrested in connection to November burglary
Police served a search warrant at a home on Fourth Street in connection to a Nov. 21, 2012 home burglary. In the original incident, a homeowner had came home to find an unknown car parked in his driveway. He was confronted by three suspects inside his home, one of whom swung at the homeowner with a kitchen knife causing a laceration. A follow-up investigation and composite sketch of the suspects led authorities to serve a search warrant at the Fourth Street home on Monday where two suspects were arrested on suspicion of being involved in the original crime.
Two loaded guns seized in traffic stop
An officer in the area of Alvarado-Niles Road noticed a car driving without a rear license plate at around 12:46 p.m. and conducted a traffic stop. The vehicle pulled into the James Logan High School parking lot. The driver tried to give the officer a fake name to avoid an active warrant arrest. During a search of the vehicle, the officer located a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun on the driver and a second handgun under the front seat loaded with 40-caliber rounds. The driver and passenger were both arrested on suspicion of possessing loaded firearms, among other charges.
MONDAY, JAN. 14
Three arrested in connection to armed robbery
An officer travelling on Decoto Road spotted a vehicle identified as being involved in an armed robbery and called for backup. Officers conducted a high-risk top of the vehicle inside the Burger King parking lot. The occupants were found to be in possession of stolen property and a loaded 9mm handgun. Fremont police responded and identified the three male suspects as being involved in the robbery. All three were arrested.
Home burglaries
A home on Brockway Street was broken into sometime between 6 a.m. and 11 a.m. The suspect kicked the front door open to gain entry. No missing items when the burglary was reported.
Another home was burglarized on Cambridge Way. The suspect pried open a locked rear window. Electronics and computer equipment were stolen.
TUESDAY, JAN. 15
Man arrested after threatening employees at Burger King
Officers responded to the Burger King on Alvarado-Niles Road after receiving a report of a possible armed robbery. Officers learned that a man tried to pass a fake $10 bill while ordering food in the drive-through. He became angry when the counterfeit bill was discovered and entered the restaurant, jumped over the counter and threatened employees. Responding officers located the suspect leave the area and arrested him.
WEDNESDAY, JAN. 16
Burglary reported at Los Robles Apartments
Three suspects were seen breaking into a unit at the Los Robles Apartments on Almaden Boulevard at about 1:10 p.m. Officers responded to the scene but were unable to locate the suspects, who fled the area in a Chevrolet El Camino.
Attempted home burglary on Delores Drive
A man attempted to break into a home on Delores Drive at around 3:18 p.m. The suspect broke a window pane on the front door but a woman inside the home screamed, causing the suspect to flee in a white sedan.
