Police Log: Teen Robbed at Gunpoint; Drunk Driver Attempts Hit-and-Run, Tries to Break Into Home

Incidents also include reports of commercial burglaries and multiple domestic disturbance arrests.

The following is a collection of reports prepared by the Union City Police Department. The document contains only items of note that occurred Nov. 8-13. Reports have been lightly edited for Patch style

THURSDAY, NOV. 8

Three businesses burglarized

Officers responded to a commercial building on the 32000 block of Alvarado-Niles Road to investigate a string of burglaries to three individual suites. The burglaries occurred the night before between 7 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. Thursday. The suspect(s) pried the front doors to make entry to the individual businesses.

Man and woman arrested after public domestic disturbance

Later this night at about midnight, officers were sent to investigate a domestic disturbance at the Green Haven Apartments located at 31770 Alvarado Blvd. Callers stated that a man was choking a woman. Arriving officers contacted the couple in front of the apartment. The male refused to cooperate with officers and had to be physically restrained. The female victim also refused to cooperate with officers. In the end, the boyfriend was arrested on suspicion of domestic battery and resisting arrest. The girlfriend was arrested for an outstanding arrest warrant and for failing to comply with a court stay-away order.

FRIDAY, NOV. 9

Drunken driver attempts hit-and-run, tries to break into home

At about 12:30 a.m., officers responded to the area of the 32000 block of Regents Boulevard to investigate a hit-and-run accident involving a parked car. As officers were responding to this incident, a resident on Drywood Court phoned police to report that someone was attempting to break into his residence.

Officers ultimately learned that the driver of the vehicle had crashed into a parked car, and then struck a tree. The driver then abandoned his vehicle and attempted to flee the area. The driver then attempted to pry the front door open to a residence on Drywood Court. This is where officers found the driver.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol, attempted burglary and possession of a switchblade knife.

SATURDAY, NOV. 10

Walmart shoplifter resists arrest

At about 10:10 a.m., officers responded to the Walmart store located at 30600 Dyer St. to investigate a shoplifting incident. Arriving officers met with store security who was detaining the male suspect. While the officer was obtaining a statement from security, the suspect was able to slip out of his handcuffs and attempted to escape. Officers pursued the suspect and physically restrained the suspect. He was arrested on suspicion of petty theft, burglary and attempting to escape.

Teen robbed of cell phone at gunpoint

Later at 5:15 p.m., a teenage boy was confronted by a white male adult, about 20 years old, while the victim was walking in the area of San Andreas Drive and Santa Maria Drive. The suspect pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded his cell phone. The suspect then fled on foot.

SUNDAY, NOV. 11

Large party gets out of hand

At about 12:30 a.m., officers investigated a report of a possible shooting at a residence on the 33000 block of Quail Drive. Arriving officers found that there were several hundred teenagers at a party. Officers dispersed the large group and learned that there was not shooting, but that there had been a fight. One juvenile was arrested for public intoxication and resisting arrest.

Drunken driver arrested after following woman

At about 12:18 a.m., officers responded to the front parking lot of the police department to investigate a report of a suspicious person following a female driver. Arriving officers found the reporting party and suspect still in the parking lot and detained them both until they could sort out what was going on. The investigating officer eventually arrested the person following the female driver on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol.

TUESDAY, NOV. 13

Man arrested on suspicion of domestic battery

At about 8:50 p.m., officers responded to a residence on the 2400 block of Regal Drive to investigate a domestic disturbance. Arriving officers met with the victim at a neighbor’s residence. The victim told officers that she and her separated husband were involved in a heated argument that escalated when he began to batter her. The husband was arrested on suspicion of domestic battery.
