Police Log: Reckless Driving, Armed Robbery and Attempted Kidnapping

Thursday, March 17

Darn dogs! A patrol officer spotted a vehicle with expired registration being driven near Whipple Road and Huntwood Avenue. The officer stopped the vehicle and learned that he had a suspended driver’s license. Smelling a hint of marijuana, the officer requested a police K-9 to sniff the vehicle. After a search, the officer discovered 18 ecstasy pills and 10.1 grams of pot. The driver was arrested for possession of drugs for the purpose of sales.

Put your toys away. An officer pulled over a driver who failed to stop at the intersection of Whipple Road and Medallion Road. When the officer approached the driver to get his license and registration, the officer saw a handgun wedged between the driver’s seat and the center console. The cop drew his handgun, ordering the driver out of the vehicle. After inspecting the weapon, the officer found that the gun was a replica BB gun. But while searching the vehicle, the officer also found 1.7 grams of methamphetamine.

Speed freak. Later in the night, a speeding vehicle drove past a patrol officer on Industrial Parkway. The car slowed down for a red light at Whipple Road but as the officer caught up with the suspect, he sped off again. This time the officer turned on his emergency lights to stop the driver, who quickly dropped his feed from 80 miles per hour to a complete stop. The driver was arrested for reckless driving. Also, the passenger had an arrest warrant and was arrested.

The last incident of note for the evening was a domestic disturbance in the Krispy Kreme parking lot. Officers arrived to the scene and learned that a couple were arguing in their vehicle. The female victim decided to leave and attempted to grab some girl scout cookies from the trunk when her boyfriend slammed the drunk door on her hand. The action may have broken her hand. Alameda County Fire arrived to give first aid to the victim who later drover herself to a nearby hospital for treatment. The boyfriend was arrested for domestic battery.

Friday, March 18

A 16-year-old girl reported an attempted kidnapping that occurred the previous day near the BART station. The girl said she was walking home from along Union Square just past the McDonald’s when a man tried to snatch her. She elbowed the man in his groin area and ran to a safe location. Three suspects armed with shotguns and a handgun robbed the KFC at 32004 Alvarado Boulevard. The suspect held the employees at gunpoint while they stole money from the register and safe before fleeing on foot. See a more detailed report .

Tuesday, March 22

Police arrested Andre English, a 27-year-old Union City resident, in connection with a groping incident that occurred the previous day at Kennedy Park. On Monday, a 13-year-old girl said she was walking alone when a man, later identified as English, tried to strike up a conversation and then touched her inappropriately. She recognized the man when driving in the same area later on Tuesday and called police. He was arrested for child molestation.

Though matching the description of the suspect in the previous week’s attempted kidnapping, English was not identified by the previous victim. He is scheduled to appear in court for the child molestation charge on Monday, March 28. See a more detailed report .
