Police Log: Partygoers Attack Officers; Man Turns Himself in After Domestic Assault

Reports also include hit-and-run and domestic battery arrests.

The following is a collection of reports prepared by the Union City Police Department. Released Dec. 3, the document contains only items of note that occurred Nov. 22-27. Reports have been lightly edited for Patch style

THURSDAY, NOV. 22

Man turns himself in after domestic assault

At about 11:15 a.m., a man came to the front counter of the police department to turn himself in for a domestic battery incident. He explained that at about 11 a.m. he got into a fight with his wife and head butted her on her face. The head butt caused her to have a bruise on her face. This prompted the subject to be ashamed for his actions and turn himself in to police. Officers responded to the residence to check on his wife’s welfare and confirmed his account of events. He was arrested on suspicion of domestic battery.

Additionally, at about midnight, officers responded to a return call of a loud party at a home on the 32000 block of Elizabeth Way. Two officers responded to the call and contacted various subjects milling around the driveway and street. One of the intoxicated partygoers became belligerent and attacked one of the officers. Another partygoer attempted to pull the subject away from the officers, and then decided to take a fighting stance against the officers. The two subjects were loudly threatening the officers as about 15 additional partygoers began to emerge from the backyard area. The officers requested emergency backup as they struggled with the subjects, and the crowd was converging on them. Arriving officers assisted in taking the two subjects into custody and keeping the crowd away. Eventually the partygoers were dispersed.

SUNDAY, NOV. 25

Man arrested for drug possession

At about 7:40 p.m., an officer on routine patrol in the area of the 30000 block of Granger Avenue saw a vehicle containing two subjects parked in front of a residence. The officer contacted the subjects and searched them. The officer found that one of the subjects had .3 grams of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia on his person and arrested him for it.

TUESDAY, NOV. 27

Hit-and-run suspect arrested

At about 2:54 a.m., officers responded to the area of Medallion Drive near Alvarado Niles Road to investigate a hit and run traffic accident. The investigating officer found the suspect vehicle and driver nearby and arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Woman arrested for domestic battery

On Tuesday night at 9:58 p.m., officers responded to a residence on the 34000 block of Starling Drive to investigate a domestic battery in which the husband was bleeding from his head. Arriving officers met with the victim and had Alameda County Fire and Paramedic Plus respond to render aid to him for a gash above his eye. The victim, who was intoxicated, advised that his wife had struck him with an unknown item as she argued with him over his state of intoxication. The wife was eventually arrested on suspicion of domestic battery.
